No there isn't, not that I've noticed. Again, as has been mentioned there are variables to proper performance.

Darkhorse calls it a sprocket. It says motor sprocket on the box. Nowhere does it say compensator.

I installed one on my built Ultra Limited, and I noticed no vibration difference.

There is most certainly a difference in....reaction I guess you would call it, between a comp and a MOW sprocket, but on my bike there was no vibration after swapping comp for sprocket.

I had less vibration with the swap. Very smooth actually. My comp was bad and my auto adjust tensioner was way tight at time of switch though. Riding bikes without those problems i would not say there is more vibration with the mow. Just my experience.

If you guys have any it will be down low.. One thing nice about later touring bikes is that they added dampers to the rear wheel..

I find this an interesting topic. For two reasons, I got over 70k on my 2007, which people say should have blown up a hundred years ago, I am thinking riding styles? And everntually I will want to do something. The idea of glueing so to speak parts to the inner primary just makes me nervous.

One of these I am going to go through the engine, and should think about it. Or if it simply fails.

Harley can *** up an anvil.

My SE comp makes noise I put the MOW back on it makes more noise I think the gear back lash is to much I will put the SE back on until I can get another one plus I will get a trans gear set. And I didn’t check

but does oil get into the MOW ? I wonder if you should put oil in it through the small holes to quite it down .inside.

Cycle-Rama and Star Racing both make heavy duty billet ramps for the SE comp , many builders are liking this option, probable the way I'm going when it's time.

2009 Road King here. I wouldn't bet the ranch on it, but when I looked into upgrading the compensator for my bike, there was no brand new OEM compensators available any more. Consequently, to upgrade to either Screaming Eagle, Man-O War, or other, you also have to purchase a updated alternator/rotor housing. Adds about another $160 to a $500+ compensator.
I think MOW offers a complete upgrade package for this year, but the total was >$700.... and mines only a stock 96". Kinda expensive and overkill. I went with Ebay used and found one in better shape ( less miles than what mine has). Saved about $600 and so far so good.
  • Also required when installing V-Twin or Screamin Eagle compensator upgrade kit on 2007-2011 models
  • OEM No. 30041-08A

FWIW....

There was a problem with the M8 comp ramps breaking. I believe those billet comp ramps are for the M8 compensators, not the comps on the Twin Cams like on an '09 bike....

Cool Chain Tensioner ....

As just a suggestion ...when running the stock S/E compensator (with the stock chain tensioner) ...then start to experience primary noise ...we have found that the chain tensioner is the problem ..

It is not tightening the chain as design ...the slack in the chain(chain stretch from new) is what is wearing out the compensator ...YOU NEED TO MANUALLY ADJUST THE CHAIN ...this is causing the compensator to rock back and fourth too much ...then with the load of the bike and riders , causes the comp to wear prematurely...

We have found that the stock adjuster will not auto ratchet up ...(contrary to popular belief that the tensioner is tightening too much)
To TEST . remove primary cover and run with chain open ...stop motor ....then TAP THE ADJUSTER UP WITH PUNCH AND HAMMER(one notch at a time) ...then retest
hope this helps ...it has here ...

FYI ...we also run the M O W motorsprocket too ...and it is very sensitive to chain alignment /adjustment

What year tensioner are you talking about .. The first ones 06/07 had this problem. It was fixed in a later rev.
