Anyone got more than 50000 anyone the after market stuff?
Maybe you’re just lucky? 🤷‍♂️
The factory unit on my ‘07 failed after only 30K miles and others have had failures with fewer miles.
It might be a crap-shoot…

Nope, Not.. The original 07 comp failed in about 25000 miles.. I had a early SE comp that only lasted about 20K. Motor was a 103 at the time..

Stock 2011 with 96 only had 13000 on the SE and it was beat to death.

FWIW....

The redesigned comp that came OEM in 2007 on all models was problematic. It recorded a lot of failures and the MoCo made several attempts to fix it over several years.

It wasn't until the Rushmore bikes in 2014, that the MoCo came out with a version that has been pretty reliable with minimal issues. That improved comp has the scoop on the primary cover that directs oil towards the comp nut.

Early on (around 2008) there was another Screamin' Eagle comp that became OEM in 2011ish. It too had some issues. That comp is no longer the Screamin' Eagle comp.

The current Screamin' Eagle comp is the Rushmore version. It allows you to add the better comp to the pre-Rushmore bikes with the substandard comps. The kit #42200064A is for '11-'13 touring models, and the #40100061 is for '07-'10 touring which includes a new rotor you'll need for the installation on those years.

I had that newest version as OEM on my '16 Ultra Classic. It had 21k miles on the OEM 103 with no issues, and I added a 124" S&S engine with much more HP & TQ. It handled the increased power with no issues. I eventually replaced it with a solid engine sprocket for the gearing change, not because it was having any issues...

IMHO.... That newest Rushmore version of the compensator is a good, reliable compensator. Much better with less issues than its predecessors since the redesign in '06/'07...

One thing to add is that if you decide to go w/ the MOW sprocket, they have a small plastic oil diverter that is supposed to be glued to the inside of early primary covers (as referenced above, the Rushmore versions already have this 'scoop' molded into the cover).
Rather than add the diverter to my original cover, I'm updating to a newer one that includes the molded-in scoop.

I ran mine w/ the original cover (no scoop) for about 3K miles until I found a replacement cover (which is still sitting on the shelf waiting to go in).

I have an '09 UC that had been upgraded to a 103 tc, 510g cams, 41k miles, I don't notice too much noise except on hot restarts. If I'm not really laying into the starter button I'll get a big old 'clunk' & sometimes smoke blows out through the AC. Then I'll really lay into the starter button & it usually starts fine. Is this an indication of a compensator issue?
The PO did alot of maintenance at Arrowhead Harley but looking through the receipts I don't see anything about the compensator. Purchased the bike at 23k miles.

That's exactly the type of symptoms that I was experiencing.

Wonderful, well I have been kinda thinking that for awhile. I don't ride hard but at some point something bad is gonna happen. Man o War seems pretty slick or maybe screamin eagle with my riding style. I'll hafta research all of this.

In my case, the stock compensator was only part of the issue.
Teeth on the comp and the clutch basket were both worn, the chain was stretched, and the tensioner showed signs of wear.
I swapped all of the primary guts at once, and it solved my hard start issues.
