Default Custom Rear Brake Line

Has anyone made or had made a custom rear brake line (for touring) that incorporates the same style banjo fitting at the rear master cylinder which has a fitting/adapter for the brake switch built in? I found that Drag Specialties makes one, but with a screw on fitting to the line (prefer crimped). I'm replacing with SS lines. Drag Specialties has a clear that I like for the front brake and clutch. They also have a clear for the rear with the stock-type fitting - but I would prefer black along the bottom of the frame to better blend in (hence the custom route).

Googling around I cannot readily find much. In this video at about 5:21 and 7:45 note that he just screwed the switch directly into the front of the master cylinder (in place of the bolt).

From Ronnies. Note the large fitting on the right side that routes around the master cylinder and has a spot for the brake switch.

Quick picture of my rear master cylinder showing the setup:

The Drag Specialties with the clear stainless:

Your local hydraulic shop can make whatever you want, in most any color you want. They're generally cheaper too.

You can get the hose and end components from many suppliers, chrome or anodized color's, Russel is a common name. Been making my own for decades.

If you have a local Parker hydraulic store some of them will make up lines to your specs in color matched hoses. The sport bike crown out here use them.

One of my setups.

Very nice!

Would you have a recommendation as to how I should ask to have my rear built? What seems to be stumping me is dealing with that brake light switch.

The old way was to put a Tee in the lines like the one center in my picture and use a stock pressure switch. As others have mentioned there's banjo bolts with built in switches now that can be run directly off the MC. Haven't used them myself yet but heard mixed reviews on them about short life and sticking out there a bit.

Old way takes 2 lines made to length to accommodate wherever the Tee is mounted. My preferred method but I have a healthy stock of line and fittings to play with doing custom work like this.

Little trick for playing with this stuff? Get yourself 6 or 8 feet of bare solid 12 ga. copper grounding wire from the hardware store. Figure out where you want to mount the switch tee then take a length of the wire and bend it up to fit exactly how the line should run. Gives you and idea of what and how to get it all to work and look good and you'll have a correct length if you choose to order premade lines. Takes the guessing out things.

Good info and tips. I'll consider all, but will try to convert in the next couple weeks. Trying to weigh pros/cons. Choices seem to be:
  • just use the Drag Specialties line and hide the line best I can
  • Custom made solid line using a banjo bolt switch - would want durability from the switch and properly locate the switch front or rear
  • Custom made with npt fittings for a tee for the switch - not sure where the tee might be secured

Swinging back around on this.

Used a solid bare electrical ground wire to bend in place for measurements. About 46 inches routed along frame, then up and over the swing arm to the rear caliper.

Any issues putting the brake light switch (and maybe a Jagg oil cooler fan switch in tandem) on the rear brake? Obviously would use heavy shrink wrap on wites run to the front around the rear master cylinder area. Though, would run along the bottomish of the frame.

Am I asking for trouble with the wiring? Doesn't seem to be enough room in front of the master cylinder for the switches - would bump into the bottom of the crash bar.

Can't see the logic putting a fan switch in a brake line system.
