Dead Fob
if, after checking that the battery is in rightside up, and trying another new battery (they have been know to be bad right out of the package), you decide to go to the dealer and get a new fob, it is imperitive that you have your working fob with you. there can only be a max of 2 fobs programmed to each bike, and when programming a new fob, they have to be done in pairs. at least that's what the owner's manual/service manual tell you.
There can be a max of two FOBs programmed to the TSSM or BCM...
FWIW......
IIRC... On the TSSM bikes, with push button FOBs, you need to add FOBs in pairs.
On the BCM bikes, you don't have to add FOBs in pairs. I have added several FOBs to my bikes and friend's bikes with my Twin Scan 4 tool. You are able to add only one FOB, but you need to know which of the two FOB serial numbers listed in the BCM to write over, with the new FOB serial number.
You'd need to bring the serial number for the new FOB...... and..... either the serial number for the bad FOB (you are getting rid of), or the serial number for the good FOB (you want to keep), so the programmer will know which of the listed serial numbers in the BCM to keep, and which one to write over...
