I use to keep a pocket full of pennies in my vest when I rode in New York City. Just drop them off the side of the bike. Pennies coming up off the road at 60 MPH make a hell of a racket. And every now and than can put a hole in some jerks grill.
If your doing 60 surely the pennies are also doing 60 as is the car behind you so unless you toss em backward with some force I don't see how it works. I have never tried it so don't know, but on paper it don't add up. I would have thought there was more danger of the object carrying forward motion and bouncing up into innocent oncoming traffic.
Just yesterday, I'm cruising 65-70 mphon the interstatein the rightlane, a cage comes smoking by youat 85 mphin the left lane, then cuts in front of you and then swings off the offramp in all in the span of about 1000 feet. These people watch to much NASCAR. Be careful out there.
That's why I've come to the point when I see some azzhat rolled over in the woods, I just say good riddance. If we're in the car my wife get's pizzed at me, but my attitude is how many times did this f**wad pull this same stunt before until he finally killed/maimed himself. You want to pretend your a bad azz NASCAR wannabe and endanger other's lives? Then I couldn't give two chits when you kill yourself.

I'm kida like you Fred, not taking any chit of a-hole drivers and protecting my lane. But on Sat when this POS swerved at me and missed me by a foot at 65 MPH, I'm starting to rethink this. I could easily have been splattered all over I-95 and this maggot would have been long gone. As much as I despise giving an inch in these situations, having my wife get a call to come pick me up off the highway would be worse.
Maybe tossing pennies at them as I go by is the answer. I guarantee they will remember that next time they pull this crap on a bike.

Wild Bill has the best answer, but FLFOOL has my favorite, and I think that if more people would go that extra distance and take that approach, the world would be a safer place.
On 2 wheels, you ain't gonna win. Sometimes turning around and looking at a tailgater will get them to back off. I used to carry about a 3/4" nut nylon tied to my handlebar for tailgaters. Pop it off and toss over the shoulder. Then one day I wanted 2 of them so I started tying 2 on the handlebar. Then one day, I wanted 3, and I decided that I just didn't need to do that anymore.
Don't think you know me that well but anyway......Letting someone know or think they can get away with trying to kill you in my opinion creates greater danger for all. While not for everyone, I make sure I make my feelings known. Yes, people transgress against me. Most won't do it a second time. That's how I've lived my life and it works. By the way. (Dr. Hess) I treat everyone with respect until they have treated me in a disrespectful manner.
I don't disagree with you. Iknow the smart thing to do. Just have trouble doing it.

I haven't said I'm doing the smart thing yet, just thinking that I should. On the way home I'll probably be back to chasing them and acting like an idiot.

Nothing new or insightful to add here, just agreeing with those who say let it go. They probably won't think twice even if you retaliate. Just curious, does anyone know what the law (state of GA) says about me carrying my 9 on a shoulder holster while riding???Seriously...

I do not know if this will help, but here is how I handle situations like you have stated: I frankly do not care what the cagers think. I keep the 4 second space between me and the person in front of me. If someone slips in between us, I will back off and reset my 4 second cushion. I never let myself become parallel with a cager. If they come up next to me, I always back off to regain my diagonal. I am constantly adjusting my position.
I found that the 4 second cushion gives me enough time to stop or react to something on the road surface. I get real nervous when I am too close to the idiot in front of me.
Sounds like you were going to slow. You need to pick up the pace...it works in NASCAR.
