Those old liesthat they're sooooooooooo superior . . . is wrong. They are over rated like most all japanese vehicles. The japs have the American public so fooled . . . It's sad. When you see what maint costs are compared to a Harley (or honda cars vs. GM or Ford) it's laughable. You even look wrong at a honda accord and it needs a timing belt and a water pump. Same with the bikes. Over rated plastic JUNK!!! Saw a GW on the way home from wk today. Ugliest thing I saw all day.
Maint costs??? My 02 Wing had 45,000 miles on it when I sold it. Changed the air cleaner once (pain in the butt) the dealer will charge around $100. Changed brake pads, $140 for the pads. Easy swap out. Other than that just oil and filters. No break in. Just hammer it right out of the show room. No $200/$300 1000 mile check up. No 5,000, 10,000 or any other check up. Didn't need pipes, race tuners or dyno work to make it run proper. Didn't need heat shields to keep you from cooking while riding. My neighbor has an 03 Wing with well over 100,000 on the clock. Just oil and filter for him also. No need to "refresh" the upper or lower end.
That said , I love my 07 Ultra. Like someone on this board put it "Harleys have soul..Hondas don't. Just admitt that a Goldwing will out perform, out last and is a better engineered machine. Also somwhat boring. All this Honda bashing sounds like some of us are trying to justify owning a Harley. Remember the old saying "if you have to ask you wouldn't understand"
I spent several weeks test riding bikes to figure which tourer I wanted/needed. The new gwings handle great much better than the 05 down. I was wanting another HD but the gwing was tempting. Due to my short legs I went with the ultra classic, I am very happy with my decision. However, My cousin has a 06 goldwing and it is a good bike. Very comfortable, good handling, lots of accessories comes with it like the uc. Your friend may save some $$$ by going to Chattanooga, Tn for his purchase. http://www.southernhonda.com/
Ask for Gary
No 2 people will like the same thing including motorcycles. That is why we are unique from other creatures that God has made. Your friend will enjoy the wing
Man you been spending too much time on this forum & not riding, why you would ride HD when you feel GWs are better???? Life is too short to not ride what you like. I don'tlike GWs and most of us here don't, so to us they are NOT a better bike. Each, of course to his own, I really don't care what you ride.

Why do I get the impression that you've never owned a Honda Accord (or Civic or Acura or...)? MyMercury cost me more after I paid it off than the monthly payments. My Honda/Acuras keep money in my Harley pocket!
