Hey, just wondering what everyone's favorite custom shift linkage is. I'm not sure what i want, just looking for some idea's. I wont buy anything Arlen Ness, so leave that off the list please. If you have pics of them on your bikes, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance
I just got with the least expensive HD solid rod versions of black on last bike and chrome on new one . # 1 priority is ditching the cheap OEM ball and socket for Heim Joint ones..I used to try and make a fashion statement out of everything but have outgrown caring about spending more on that stuff, it never ends!
I went with Thrashin Supply shift linkage, 1 shorter shift arm, inner shift lever (and floor boards, passenger boards, brake arm).
The shifting is 100% better getting the stock slop out of there.
Neutral is so much easier to find, it just clicks into and out of gear sooo easy. I highly recommend.
Ive been running the cheap Amazon versions on my last two touring bikes. No problems at all. I feel no difference.
Ive learned that the easier the part is to replace (for cosmetics) the higher the dealer markup is. I really do try and buy OEM when I can (as it is usually has better quality chrome) , but there is *NO* reason why the dealer charges 150 bucks for this part. I really think its one of those easy to replace parts that non gear heads get all proud to replace and Harley just exploits that.
Your paying for decent helm joints to start with, and ones that the threads on the joints are opposing, so you can adjust it when still on the bike. Not ones with cheap stamp helm joints that are going to be rattling in a mater of weeks, and both sides threaded same direction, so to adjust, have to pull it off the fixed to points.
The HD units fit the bill nicely, while the sub $30 units on Amazon, junk helm joints to begin with.

Like I said, 99% of the time Ill buy OEM over Chicom.....but the $30 dollar units have lasted me well, and I am a gear masher. The only reason why Harley charges an extra 100 bucks is because its a very common and easy to replace part. Just like 400 dollar floorboard inserts and 79 dollar master cylinder caps. Easy install and high visual return equals unhealthy markup.
A piece of chrome moly tubing with L/H and R/H ends and Arrow hiem joints and jam nuts to match. Powder coat the tube once the ends are welded on the color of your choice and your done. Now you have something that is easy to adjust (fine tune) your shifter position,
