Bike - 2015 FLHXS Street Glide
Miles- 65,000
Bike has no problems,,, just wanting to replace cam tentioners... Of course will be replacing cam bearings ,, lifters etc,,, plus will be replacing stock pushrods with adjustables...
A friend has (new), not used set of SE 204 cams he said I can have... I understand there are better cams that will give a better bang for your buck for this engine, but a bird in your hand is better than two in the bush.....As I am not a rev head,, I am not after max power, (Im realy only going in the cam chest to replace tentioners), the extra bump in torque from the 204's would be nice though....What do you guys think of this upgrade ???
Question 2 . Regard tuning if I install the 204's..... I have the old discontinued SE pro tuner , (I have the most update software on my computer).... only have to get the cable that goes from computer to device...
Will this tuner still work to update a tune from the library of tunes in the software that would be suitable for the 204's for the above bike to get me going ??? I may get a dyno in the future.....
The cams should give some boost in power over what you have now. Your bike has the 103 HO cams, where as a Softail of the same year has the old OEM cams from 2007. I mean the price is right and you'll be there, so why not.
As far as the tuner, one of the tuning guys will be here to advise about that.
If you are looking for more power by adding that cam then that's fine. But none of those parts need replaced at that milage for any other reason. In 2007 Harley went to hydraulic tensioners that will last the life of the engine. So will the rest of the valve train. I have 160,000 miles on my 2009 with no engine issues or parts replaced.
I would just pull the cover to look at them if you want peace of mind. I checked mine at 35k because the cover gasket was leaking. Couldn't really tell on the inner shoe, but the outer had zero wear.
You may think that hydraulic tensioner dont need replacing a approx 65,000 miles as a wear item... But my last bike , (2009 Electra glide) at approx 70,000 were shot,,, down to the metal inserts, and damaged the cam chain...Lucky I went in to upgrade cams....
Anyway,,, If anyone has any info they can share regarding the old discontinued SE Pro tuner,, and if it will still work with the old software , please chime in.....
