I installed the Kurk brand shields which uses the existing holes in the frame. It was a bear to get the top screws in, had to lift tank to get room to work. But they went on just fine. And yes they help, haven't broken (plastic) and on my white bike the tinted ones look great.
I used the kuryakyn mid fairing. Instead of using the top bolt I used velcro to hold it in place. Works good but the RJS are better. The kurakyn has a space at top and bottom that allows heat to get in as where the RJS does not
I melted the kurys on my 07, put on RJS originals and now I have no heat, no burned thighs and Wife has no heat issues. try them and you will love them
