I know it's hard to estimate without seeing, but I'm dealing on a 1988 FLH. It looks like today's Road King. Mechanically it's great. The dealer just went through the motor, bored it .005 over, new pistons, rings, and all new gaskets throughout the motor. Cosmetically it's rough. Needs to be taken down to the frame the repainted, new paint on the tins and bags. Chrome needs to be spruced up or replaced to make it into something sweet. The dealer is asking $6900. Any thoughts on whether or not that is a deal? I'm thinking of buying it to restore and then resell next spring, maybe make a few bucks along with a winter project. Thanks for any input.
For what he is asking, you could most likely find a late 90's model for that price in pretty good shape. Even my ride according to NADA is only in the mid 7's not taking into account there is a couple of thousand in chrome alone on it. That doesn't seem to mean too much.
I'm not so sure about the NADA values being all that accurate. Just about all the scooters I see are still selling way above NADA, and although they have a few add ons here and there they are basically stock.
Thanks Guys. I had the same feeling about not making much money on it. The bike isn't old enough to make it collectable, and it isn't new enough to take advantage of more modern engine design. I'll look further. Thanks again.
