Hello. I have a 06 RoadKing Classic. Brake light stays on. Started t/s. Turned power on. Grabbed front brake lever. Heard the relay click. Released handle. Applied foot brake. Heard relay again. I was trying to eliminate both switch issues. With power off, I pulled rear bulb. Socket looks like it's been getting hot. Going to order one but thinking it's still OK because getting power. Replaced bulb. Still stays on. I do have the Clymer manual with the cd electrical schematics . I've watched all sorts of videos on t/sing the switches. Some say if you hear the relay clicking that indicates the switch is fine. I also test lighted the 2 wires going to the rear brake pressure switch. Live on one and not the other. Question is, does hearing the relay when activating the front or rear switch indicate that the switches are good? I tested the rear switch spades with my meter on ohms. Read O.L but not sure if it's that proper method. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check the little button the tang on the front brake lever depresses. When it's depressed, the brake light is off. If that's the issue, I'll share the simple fix. I've had this issue many times on many bikes.
Okay; you have power to the brake/tail light. Upstream, it sounds like the switch works because you hear the relay click. But...if you remove the front brake lever and depress the switch with your finger, does the light go off or stay on?
So I do hear the relay clicking by depressing the front brake. I release the front brake handle and depressed the foot brake. I also hear the click and light stays the same. Both elements lit. My shop manual (Clymer) has a wiring schematic CD, but when I tried to play it it wouldn't work. Surprisingly to me after I phoned customer service they are mailing me another CD for free. I unplugged the connection under the seat to the tail light assembly and had power to #2 and #7 wire. Just not sure if it's supposed to. I have ordered a blacked out led tail light. I priced a new socket and there wasn't much difference in price. Socket looks burnt up. Thanks.
