I have recently had a FLHX 2010 with fob and round key.
I don't need the key to drive, but I do need it to set the steering lock. The key was not completet round and so it did not fit my ignition lock, after some knocking I got the key round and it fits my lock but I cannot close my lock, it seems as if it does not fit together? Can the dealer see whether I have the right key or not?
You can order a new key from the dealer with your VIN, probably the easiest way to go. The barrel keys are pretty sturdy, how do it get squashed?
If you pounded on it, you probably deformed some of the pin cutouts on the outside of the barrel key so the pins in the lock do not align.
Order a new key and see if it works.
Oh and don't try and force it as you may damage the pins in the locking mechanism.
The black plastic cover of the key you have, slides right off. Look under the cover and you will see your key number.
It's possible it's the wrong key. But, if it was out of round, the key was already damaged. You "knocking" on it might make it round again, but cause further damage on the needed contact points.

I've bought new keys before and also a new bag lock. All you have to do is take your registration and ID to any dealer and they will order new keys for you. The vin or key number are not enough.

No, not even that , I passed it on over the phone, now we wait and hope it is okay
