I was surprised to see that keys at the dealer were 35 dollars and I had to take in my title. LOL I thought they would also ask for a urine sample to go with it. I took the key [and I bet most of you know this, but I will post it anyway for those like me who don't] to a local key shop and it was 3.50 for a key that worked fine. Harley uses a vending machine type of key. For that I had a couple made and had 28 dollars left for gas. LOL. And I did not have to give a urine sample.
if you happen to be in an area where you can't get that type of key. you can always order the tourpak lock set. if you pull back the plastic cover on your key, there is a code. use that code when ordering the lock set. you will get a lock (obviously) and two keys, that match your existing keys. all this for around $20.00.
if you've lost both your keys, but have the number, you can do the same thing (my bike came with a little tag that has the number on it if i need to replace a key).
If you want real HD key blanks, (at least the tubular keys for softails) you can buy the replacement tubular key lock for a softail toolbox, for about $7, and it comes with 2 blank keys just like my ignition/fork key. Any softail key or key blank works in the tool box lock, so they still open that after they are cut for the ignition.
I bought 2 spares for $24, from the dealer. They don't work smoothly on my saddlebags, tour pak. When I called the dealer they said, I must have ordered the wrong ones, but they have the same exact codes, stamped on the keys. They had no answer. Whatever?

Reason: fixed droid misfire
I have seen my local dealer just hand them the key and say, "No charge"
I have not seen your dealer. LOL The two dealers I have delt with Wichita Alfes wanted 30 for two keys and I had to wait two weeks and give them my title. The other Worth in KC would not give me a quote on a bike they had listed over the phone unless I put a one thousand dollar deposit on it first. LOL So far the dealers I have dealt with are a bit snobby. But thats why after market parts and shops exist. LOL
