I drive 40 miles one way on a grand tollway.

I see people getting upset here because I don't agree with them. My original question was, "Do you use your tourer as a daily driver."

The thing about removing bags & windshield was just me thinking outloud. I've never owned/operated a motorcycle. I recently decided to buy one. I'm not planning on doing anything more than a day trip, if that. I intend to ride to work & back every day it's not raining, most likely take the long way home.

I appreciate everyone of you who helped me think this through, especially you who ride your bikes to work daily.

about that. Yeah we got a deal done, but y'know between then & now.. cold feet & 2nd guessing. I haven't taken delivery of the bike yet. I wanted to wait until after I do the MSF course (this week) being that I've never rode a motorcycle of any kind.

I sat on a couple of RKs yesteray & they're cool & all, but the more I thought about it, just not what I want. So im going to stick with the softail.

But you guys have talked me into putting some bags on it. I'm going to get a swing arm bag, a little toolkit on the handlebars & probably another one in front of the oil cooler.

I get pression not far, since doesn't want windshield.

I think he just thinks because he is big guy shy buy big bike

If you want a project try making FLH look good with out bags.

Maybe some leather bags would be more your style. I think some big soft leather bags would look cool and hide the back end.
I have considered bikes made in the east, but it seems they're made for even smaller people than 'merican bikes.

I don't use a lunch pail, we've got a cafeteria. & yes when I walked into the Harley store they steered me towards the tourers.

aily.
I have 3 FLHs cause all I want to ride dailly are touring bikes. Touring bikes make the best dailly riders. Weather protection and storage.. Why would you not want weather protection and storage? Maybe in a hot climate go no fairing. But then no radio.

Most of the guys I know the only bike they got is an electra glide.

The fenders, struts and shocks on FLHs are hidden by bags for a reason.

You'll never make any of these bikes into a chopper. Need to face bikes, and enjoy your ride. Chopper craze died again 20 years ago for a reason.

I've never been one to do what everyone else was doing.

Kind of depends on where you live
I ride to work , leave at 4A return at 4p
Plenty of temp difference ( 30+ degrees) between the two here in Ohio ( where is H-Town?)
Glad I have bags to be comfortable both ways

The touring frame is the best selling Harley-Davidson for a reason.

I have a Dyna and a Touring frame. Over 90% of my commuting is on my Street Glide. And no, I don't remove my windshield, tour pak, or anything else for that matter before riding to work. Lately it's been 40 degrees in the morning and I really appreciate my fairing and heated grips. Otherwise I like locking my helmet and jacket in the trunk. Either way I can't imagine not having any bags on a bike you're commuting on. Where are you going to put your coffee?

Maybe the question was is a touring bike to big to deal with daily. Not if you are in good health. Some guys will own a big bike and little bike. I suspect they started on little bike and kept it. Not saying as I get older I would not get a little bike, and I also bet they are fun. But I don't find a touring bike to be that big of burden, I have thought about little bike for going to bar. But I go to country bars, and with cool evenings, and warm days you need storage. If I have a second person it fills up real fast.

I would never be without a bike without windshield and bags, you can debate bag size. Me, bigger the better.

I also thought the switchback was a cool bike, mini road king, for solo trips to work that I carried nothing on, maybe that would be nice bike.

If really wanted to spend some money, the new icon bike that looks like dou glide, no bags, I think, might me up your alley, and with spring seat is probably tall

Based on this picture, I understand why! They've got a couple years' worth of sales sitting in their showroom...
