looks like shifter shaft seal, This is what I run, Engine oil in the engine, Belray in the primary, it's RED, Royal Purple in the transmission, Its purple,
Oil leak brown, engine leak, is it Red, primary, is it purple Transmission, Kind of narrows it down
I guess I'm going to have to take this to a shop. I can't figure it out. I've got the bike parked level now (jiffy stand on a 2x4) and it still pools up the same way. I haven't started it for over a week and it still leaks the same amount.
Either missing or crushed like mine were two weeks ago. Oil filter didnt bring one, found myself darting out to hardware store bought several, they didnt hug collar of bolt slightly big but time will tell. I gotta order me a bag full, the primary is soon, gotta borrow a jack here in Caribbean.
Update: This is looking more like a shift shaft seal. I don't have the tools or the time to do it myself. I'm taking it to a local indy shop. They quoted me about $550 parts and labor. Since the primary needs to come off, I'm having all seals and gaskets replaced. Bike has about 70,000 miles, so it makes sense to do it while it's all torn apart. I don't get much riding time lately and most of my free time is four wheeling and hiking with my wife and dog, so I'm considering selling the bike after this season. I don't want to sell it with a leak, so fixing it is the right thing to do for the next possible owner. Bike goes in on Monday. I should have it back on Friday. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the advice.
Confirmed! Shift shaft seal. Thanks again to all that offered suggestions. Very helpful! Inspection of the primary revealed there's probably about 50% wear on the cam chain tensioner and some slight wear on the compensator. Overall, everything looks pretty good. I might not have it back in time to ride this weekend.
Darn! Then the hunt goes on. It started after my cam upgrade. It's real clean oil that's leaking. I'd bring it back to the shop where the work was done, but I've moved out of state. Thanks for your input.
Get some purple power or a good degreaser, and spray it all over the bottom of the engine.
Clean it good and use a leaf blower to dry it off.
Then take it for a short ride and inspect it again. You will find the leak.
