Default Bar swap, 2009 Electra glide

Hey all, new member here, trying to figure out how to use forums so bare with me..

I have a 2009 Electra glide classic and I’m looking to do either 10in or 12 in bars on it.

question being; will I need extensions for the 10in, and are they worth it or should I just go with 12s. I’m looking at the pre wired dominators, and is there anything else I should be aware of before attempting.

Thanks in advance

Truthfully I'd rather bear with you than bare with you.

OP, sorry about my last post, but they were funny replies, I don't care who you are...

But to offer an opinion about your bar change.....

I am NOT an apes guy. So I have little practical experience to draw from... however..

You may want to try estimating hand placement for 10" & 12" bars and see what you think...

From all I have read on the subject;

1) Many go with mini-apes, in an attempt to avoid the need to do any wiring or cable changes while changing bars. Since you will need to change cables/wiring with either size, try to figure a way to compare the feel between them, and get what fits/feels best.

2) I have read many bar change threads, and I have heard more people wishing they had gone a little higher, and very few (in the 12" to 14" bar range) wish they had gone smaller. Just food for thought and maybe more motivation to try and replicate the hand position and see how it feels before making a decision..

Good luck iwth your handlebar mod.... Keep us posted

I went with 10” LA choppers twin peaks. Extended electrical on both sides but not TBW. Rerouted clutch cable to gain a lil length and brake cable was fine.
I also wished I’d gone 12” so do your homework before settling. (I’m fine with the 10s but if I did it again it’d be 12s)
Good luck, welcome and keep us in the loop.

appreciate the input! I’m a tall guy, with chronic back issues, and I have rode bikes with bar upgrades which have significantly helped my lower back.. I also had to buy a tallboy seat in order to get a better stance but now I look like I’m riding a wheelbarrow with my arms low.. so yes perhaps 12s would be best

thanks for the input. I would like to do 12s but would like to get away with not extending wires, but if need be I’ll go for it. Are you happy with the LA choppers?
