Guys, the aftermarket radio is plug and play. Meaning it uses the factory wire harness. It is also equipped with handlebar controls. Like I said, the first radio worked great all of last summer until I had issues last fall. The 2 new radios do not respond to any controls, even the ones on the radio, it only powers up. When bench tested the radios work like they should. Crutchfield says the issue is in the bike which I tend to believe but why does the factory radio work like it should if it's a bike problem?
Correct, in this case. The Boss Elite is a plug and play unit that does not need any special doo-dads to make it work on the bike. It uses the on board handle bar control switches without any needed hardware.
If the radio is not working then call up Boss, Not Crutchfield.
Ya, the Boss elite series. VERY happy with it last summer. Does anyone know if the handlebar controls go directly to the radio or through the ECM on an 08 FLHTCU?
Yes, it is a plug and play radio with 4 Channel operation. No additional parts required for handle bar integration.
its the single DIN Harmon Karmon radio in there, it goes through the radio.
I looked at that radio and I was thinking I'd try it.
As it looks like it only has TWO outputs to front and NONE for rear speakers, is that what you have set up?
You have an UC so I would think you'd have the rear speaker pods........
No Sir, The Boss Elite is a 4 channel radio with a fader but you can set it up for a 2 speaker operation.

The radio was bench tested at Crutchfield and it worked perfectly so I took your advice and got ahold of Boss directly. I got ahold of Boss tech support and they were absolutely zero help. They couldn't even get me a pinout diagram from their own radio. I did figure out the radio was locked on Aux mode causing every function on the radio except for the volume to not work. After a ton of probing and schematic chasing I found an input to the radio coming from the rear radio controls on the tour pack for push to talk. I cut that wire and everything on the radio works perfectly now. The circuit must have shorted somewhere causing it to send a signal all of the time. I don't use the rear control anyway so problem solved! It still makes no sense why the factory radio worked perfectly? Thanks for everyone's input on my problem.
