Guy pulls up to me at a light rolls down his window and says "Your puffing blue smoke out of your left exhaust. Kinda gave him a blank look as I don't know what that means. When I stopped I revved it a few times but don't see anything. Bikes running good, good gas mileage, been serviced recently. Whadaya think??

If your bike is an 05 you could have a valve stem seal leak. My coworker who also rides a EG told me he saw mine smoking. Eventualy had the valve stem seals replaced under warranty.
If it is puffing smoke at idle and between gear shifts, be looking at the valve seals. If it issmoking under acceleration, be looking at rings for the problem.
You can see the smoke much better at night from behind the vehicle with a set of headlights shining on the back of the bike. Give it a look.
My Ironhead has no exhaust valve seals. We built it that way. It puffs a little at idle and a little at shifts. However, it doesn't use enough oil to ever need any added between changes.
If youcan geta hold of a compressiontestor you can check the compression oneach cylinder and verify that they are both pumping outan equal amout of pressure. If you find one that has a significantly less (10 to 20 PSI) pressure reading then you can isolate futher as to if it is rings or valves by pouring in about 1/2 ounce of oil into the lower compression cylinder and re-test that cylinder. If the pressure goes up then you have a problem with rings, if the pressure stays the same then your problem is with your valves.
