I doubt you'll save much when empty, but I read somewhere that a King Tour pack can weigh 20-30lbs more than a chopped tour pack with both fully loaded.

And that's weight high on the bike.... Makes a difference....

Self discipline aside, and human nature being what it is, if you are going on a trip it's real easy to fill a tour pack..... whatever the size...

Tour packs are ugly, large or small.

Might as well have a big tour pack that is big enough to hold helmets and other crap.

I guess if you don`t need all the space and still want the ugly, use a small one.

Was never a fan either. It's highly unlikely that we would ever take a bike trip with more than 1 or 2 overnights. So we can manage to take what we need in saddlebags of 2 bikes. Maybe anything else strapped to the rear racks.

[QUOTE=RKZen;2227669 When the wife rides with me on the long weekend getaways, the chopped TP prevents her from taking extra crap.[/QUOTE]

That`s an endorsement !!!!

I run a Chopped on a 1-up set up, and a King (factory) on a 2-up setup. Other than a FF helmet not fitting the 3" of depth has never been missed... thats the difference.
The Chopped works great for a backrest in a 1-up configuration, and without the taller wraparound backrest and speaker pods its easier to get on and off than a King... and I think it looks better.
1-up with Chopped, previous bike, but it looks the same on the new(er) bike....

2-up Factory King

To each to their own....

If your doing long distance road trips the full size tour pak is the way to go. Me personally, I use a razor pak and that's all I need. I also like the looks of the razor pak.

I took the factory tp off the week I got the bike. I feel a difference in the balance of the bike without tp. I added the pizza box just for that reason. carry pizzas back to the room. I use a quick disconnect so I can switch between back rest chopped tp. My factory tp is considerably heavier than the chopped. its the speakers and lights and my original is fiberglass, my chopped is abs. I also like the look better.

Think about what you wrote.

20 pounds heavier when the big one is loaded. Ahhh, you don't have to fill it. But nice to have more room , for what some people think would be rare occasions

I usually use my tourpak to hold my helmets while off the motorcycle in some places. And also for weather related clothing layer changes. I frequently leave m house on Thursday or Friday, and do not return until Sunday or Monday. I use my King tourpak frequently.

A King Tourpak is a must have for 2-up travel.

A chopped tourpak looks really cool and is great for a couple of brain buckets.
