When I bought my first bagger, I bought it in Upstate NY, broke it in over 3 weeks of visiting family & friends, then headed home to San Diego. I took three weeks to get from NY to SoCal.
I used every bit of the king tour pack and then some....
When I travel with the wife, she gets the bag on top of the tour pack, I get the tour pack, and the saddlebags have the rain gear, leathers, gloves, some tools, and other shared stuff.
The dogs stay home....

I've had a SG for over four years and never had any type of tour pak. The wife doesn't ride anymore, so it is always just me, and I've never needed more space than what the bags provide. However, I would like to be able to grab a pizza sometimes to take home, and I think the top pack would be better for my laptop when I ride to work. For those things, I think a chopped should provide plenty of space and I do think it looks better than the King. Of course, I still think the best look is just the bags with no tour pack or sissy bar.
