Default King or Chopped Tourpak?

I'm considering a tour pack for my SG. I keep going between the King and Chopped for size. I know i like the appearance of the chopped but the extra space of the king may be a bonus. I don't do a lot of multi day trips yet, because its hard to get the time off work, and when I do the wife usually has things planned for me, but occasionally I do. Speaking of, I think she would prefer the king because of the wraparound backrest, but I think the chopped would still be an upgrade for her. Like I said, I know some of the pro's and con's, I just don't know if it more practical to give up space for looks or looks for space. Have any of you that have gone through this decision regretted getting one over the other, and is there anything I am not factoring in? Thanks for the input. Oh, and I have considered just getting luggage.

Helmets! If you don't like wearing a FF all the time, you can stash it in your King TP, and wear the half helmet, AND you can lock your helmets in there if you need to.

Just giving you another reason for the King. It is all that I would get. Luckily, I have had a couple friends already make the mistake of getting a chop, or even a razor TP, and end up getting the King.

i went king. and even for "local" riding you can fit two full face helmets in the king. they both have the same footprint (the lid is the same part number) the chopped is just that, chopped a few inches shorter. and you CAN put either back rest on either pack, you would just need to drill new holes to go to the other one.

I've had both and I prefer the King. The extra space is much appreciated.

thats great info, was highly considering a chopped (for looks, weight, etc), but given that knowledge i think king is the way to go. besides, it'll be quick detach

Do you notice a difference between the two in the ride? I've heard some say they feel the king more than the chopped.

What Drew said... the Chopped is 3" shorter than the King (basically the bottom 3"). If stashing a full face helmet is wanted, get a King.

I have both, a Chopped on a 1-up set up and a factory King set up for 2-up.... 1 thing to know about the Chopped, the Harley back pad that comes stock on them sucks - because I have it on a 1-up set up I use it for a "rider's" backrest, and the stock back pad felt like a rock between my lower shoulder blades, so the little lady is going to like the wrap around one like that's on a King much better.... and if she ain't happy.... well you know. I did take the Chopped's stock back pad off and had 3" of a firm (but not as hard) padding added to what was already there to both the top section and the flap section also, and had a new cover made for it. Cost like $90 at a local seat shop. Then after one ride pulled the cover off the top section, took a electric filet knife and cut a slight contour (about 1") in it going side to side, smoothened the foam good, and staple the cover back on it.... now its perfect for me

I've done several 1-2 week rides and used the Chopped and haven't changed anything in the way I pack, can still get plenty of crap in it... other than not being able to store a FF helmet in it, but I usually grab a half helmet anyways.
But for two up riding, the King... is king, and I am sure its more comfortable for the passenger (never rode back there though) and you can throw the helmets in it of you need to...

If I was doing much 2 up riding, and was only going to get one, I'd go with the King probably.

If the Chopped or the King is packed and in the 2 up, I notice no real difference between them. But when I am running the Chopped in a 1up set, it can be packed and have another bag on top it, and I barely even noticeable its on the bike... kinda like having a passenger that knows how to ride. Adding a tour pack, for 2-up riding, is a noticeable difference, but not terrible or anything, just different, because with the 2 up set up it puts that weight up high and behind the rear axle. You get used to it quickly though, but you know it's there. FWIW, my King is a factory one with speaker pods and such, so I'd guess it's like 15# heavier than the Chopped.

Going for looks is trying to impress another person. Is that your goal? If not go full size and enjoy the extra storage space.
i really enjoy riding and dont care what people think.

King = useful
chopped = looks good but mostly useless

But at least once a month, if not two or 3, I leave my house Thursday evening and do not return until Sunday. King tourpak works for me.

The cost difference between the two? Color matched from HD are the same price?

Thanks for all the replies. Sounds like the king is what I am going to want to get. I'm a little surprised its been so one-sided. Kind of rare to find these days, .
