Hey guys and gals,
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to retro-fit one of the harman-kardon cd stereos into an 89 FLHTC? My stereo is shot and I figure that I can buy one of these relatively cheap on ebay and fit it up to my ol' girl. It'd have me rockin' along in no time flat rather than trying to find someone here in Australia to fix the bloody thing. I'd need to know the dimensions of the new applicance and if I'd need to change controls/switchgear to enable this to happen
Look forward to replies.
Why??? They're really not that great of a system for the $$$$ (low output per channel - everything is a up-grade (XM\CB\INTERCOM\BLUE TOOTH\GPS\ETC)
You can find a better systems that can adpt to your switches that will put out better watts & sounds then the HD system
I know DragonFly Concept sells a system as do others... I think you would be much happier going that route http://www.dragonflycycleconcepts.com/egup.htm
I agree with Pappy, there are better systems from the aftermarket out there, Biketronics comes to mind, they have a set up for Sony radios that will fit you bike much better than the HK radio, the newer HK radios arew bigger and will reguire some major mods to fit your pre 06 bike. Doc The cost would be much greater to go the HK route.
I got a 94 flhtc and all i did was picked up a marine sony and just spliced into the harness i don't have controls on my bars now but you can get a retro kit so you can keep them. i didn't see 200 bucks when i can just reach up and do what i need to. but go after market you'll like it better
Thanks Gargoyle,
can I ask which model Sony stereo you purchased? I've noticed that there are a few on ebay but I want to make sure that the stereo I purchase will work and be a good fit! It seems that the 94 and 89 models are virtually the same.
Just a quick note to confirm that Biketronics does provide excellent customer service. \\; I can personally attest to this fact after Mike helped me troubleshoot a handlebar control issue that turned out to be a pinched Harley Wire near the handgrip. \\; Thier module does give you seemless operation of a sony unit via the stock Harley handlebar controls. \\; I personally have a set of Vance and Hines Big Shot duals and will need more clean power out than the Sony unit can deliver. \\; I will probably go with one of the amplifiers that Biketronics sells as a solution to this issue.
 \\;
I have an EG Standard and installed the sony GT520, polk 5 1/4 marine speakers (135 wtt), Biketronics module, Biketronics speaker adaptors(recommended).
PLEASE...do not waste your time on the retro fit! \\; The above statements are all true...go aftermarket. \\; Better quality...workmanship...support! I'm doing the same when I replace my HK unit! \\; Mike
+5 for the $600 - $700 you are going to pay for the HK radio you can get a killer stereo system with bluetooth that will do every function plus more to include nav, phone interface, \\;and DVD is so inclined

I have a '94..  \\; the Sony's do not need an adpater to fit..they slide right in.. \\; Go to Biketronics or Hawg-Wired websites to see what models are compatible with their controls.....
