They have this really nice analog dial temperature sensor to go in place of your dipstick - black and white faces for some bikes that are a reasonable price, cheap really. $30 or so - several different brands - V Factor and Harddrive are a couple. 1 1/4" Dia. x who knows the twist.

But they're mostly for older Heritage Softail and Sportsters.
The only ones I can find for my V Twin Electra Glide are a couple digital ones for $180. 1 3/8" Dia.

Koso is one brand. I do have an addon Koso gear position indicator that cost me almost as much as that and seems really good quality.
But I really really wanted that - not so much a simple addon oil temperature gauge, especially digital.
Does anyone have an analog dial one on their older touring model?

I was looking for one about a year ago and had zero luck.
I found a long reach meat thermometer and just use it when I want to check my oil temp.
Not convenient but I’ve heard too many stories about the digital ones crapping out after about a year of use and refuse to pay close to two hundred dollars for something that more likely than not is a short term throwaway.

Wow thanks, I didn't see those, those do look nice.
But it's not clear if you can check the oil level in the same way with it.
They don't show any side views of them (one partial side view and it looks like a solid rod rather than the hinged dipstick indicator to check while on the jiffy stand), and nothing in the descriptions or reviews about it.
And they are pricey but I guess you can't complain about that.

They are a solid rod not hinged, They are pricey but I've had mine
For over 10yrs with no issues, I like the fact they are liquid filled.
I usually check my oil on the jiffy stand with my original dip stick
Before I go out for a ride. Then I put this in to check oil temps.
I run mine on my streetglide with a s&s 124 which doesn't have a temp gauge.

What is the max operating oil temp for a Twin Cam? If you check it at a fuel stop and it is too high, what would you do?

I was always paranoid someone would steal and you would be screwed especially if you didn't notice. I realize the men here are better than me and check every time they get on.

I believe there is one that goes on oil pan. But then would have to route it to fairing

Happened to be talking with a gent yesterday who made his own.

His dipstick broke off the cap. He bought a meat thermometer, drilled a hole in the cap, and stuck the meat thermometer through it. Marked the ends for the oil levels so it would work as a dipstick. He was quite pleased with himself and the results.

That is a damn good idea!
I see a trip to the motorcycle junkyard in my future.
The only issue I see is getting the angle of the probe right so it will go all the way down into to the oil.

Same as you would do with a bowl of soup that was too hot.
Let it sit or - blow on it if you were in a real hurry.
