interesting ... I just noticed a small dark area at center of the top seem where the motor and the tranny meet. Don't know if it is a leak or this metal gunk buttman speaks of. definitly gonna take a closer look. bike is an 07 flht with about 3200 miles on it. took delivery on 8/1/06. I Lucked out on the rocks in the tranny bit, maybe my luck has run out!!
If the bike is still under warranty, demand that they fix it. It wasn't advertised that the bike would leak so don't accept it. If that doesn't do it, lemon law!
this friday they are going to replace gasket.
They were 100% understanding and would fix on the spot, but will take 1&1/2 day job ...ooch,is under warrenty. to be continued....
This might explain why the dealer still has my bike. I dropped it off for the 5000 mile service on Wednesday and asked them to also look at the seam between engine and trans as it did have a black residue on the silver motor. I will be calling them today to see what the heck is going on. I feel naked without my bike under me or in the garage.
I've had the whole nine yards, rocks in a can, predetation, 5th gear whine so loud that it sounds like an ambulance, heat between the legs, the leak between the motor & transmission. My 07 Electra Glide Ultra is now 1 year old ( Sept 8, 2006) 9k miles, and it has been in the shop a total of 35 days. 18 days last year when a MoCo rep. came down to ride & hear my noises,( he said MoCo was aware of noises but did not have a fix yet!!, but would)3 days when they pulled motor and put in new seal for leak, and 14 days and still counting since I put 500 miles on it after they fixed the leak, and now oil is praying everywhere out of induction module. They drained 2 qt's of oil out of sump and my oil pump is scored badly. They are doing more checks??? They are working with techs from the MoCo with every move they make they call MoCo again with more info & questions.
Now I have tried my best to make this pile of s#!+ a motorcycle. I have installed the 103 kit, 255 cams, PC111 usb, Kerker pipes, Arlen Ness Big Sucker, and an IDS & saddle shields, Amsoil 20w50 & severe gear 90w 140. Bike runs good, great for long trips, still have Tapping(valve noise?), but now I have that d@M^ oil leak all over the right side of bike. I ask for my money back on the day after I bought my bike and they said no, and now it lives at the dealer, thanks goodness I still have my FXSTC to ride. Good luck, just good luck.
Im not thrilled after 7500 miles give or take, runs hot-hot-hot and rough after it gets hot. My garage floor is dotted and spotted with oil after bike has been ridden.
its not the seal they will have to replace the trannie casing. had mine in twice for the same issue. they replaced the seal, still leaked. finally they called the moco and they sent a rep down and he said replace the trannie housing. never leaked again. the space inbetween the engine and the trannie is a dead space. there is no fluids in that space. when the trannie and engine mate there is a barbed piece. what happens is that they probably drilled to far during production. i repeat they will have to replace the trannie housing.
never had a leak since.
to have your dealer tell you its "normal" give me a fricken break. a new car or bike or whatever should NEVER leak. PERIOD
Damn...My '07 RG(4000 mi) engine is clean as a wistle(ok some bug guts),no whine in 5th,no biggie on the heat deal, normal motor noises..same ones as in my '99 RKC ...hopefully it stays that way.
