Help
You are not the only ones with this problem. I had my seal replaced at 6400 miles on the 07 Standard. It now has 14000 miles and it has returned, actually it returned around 10000 miles. It is not the tranny leaking oil, I only say this since I have Redline "red fluid" in the tranny and the seam has black coming out of it. It is engine oil leaking from this section.
One dealer told me to buya $20.00 chrome cover so it did not show, so I contacted Harley for a claim#.
thanks for the comments guys, this is a sad sad issue for the mioney we pay for these things. I'll be calling the 800 # for sure on friday, about the trans case because now that the seal has been replaced it is seaping even more now. not just the top anymore it's around the whole crack.
You guys aren't doing anything for my confidence level on my new '08 Ultra Classic, which is already in the shop while they try to figure out what went to hell in a hand-basket and I was left with little to no throttle response.
Man, I have been looking at 07 and 08 ultra's to trade my 99 RKC in on. I think I might just keep old dry and reliable another year and see what happens. 06 seems to be the last good year so far. Even the 08 air cooled Buells seem to be having a few issues.
is the 07 engine and tranny different than 01's
01's there is NO gasket or seal between the engine and tranny mounting surfaces.
when broken apart (4 bolts) each unit is self contained.
Outside the bolt pattern on right side is two oil lines one from tranny to engine, the other engine back to tranny.
These sometimes drip with age and if under any pressure could possibly cause oil to appear across top seam (I said possible).
The other side has a vent tube on the tranny kind of hook shaped.
Possible this could drip on floor, but don't know how it would get to seam.
In cold weather (Wyoming cold) I would loose the oil spout from the tranny for the engine. Rubber seal would contract from cold then warm oil pressure would expand in tank and pop out the dipstick (lost 2 of them).
Went to NAPA bought a twist tight and fashioned a dipstick to it.
Then on back of filler neck drilled hole inserted an nose nipple and attached big truck 1/8 " air line to it and ran line up under seat. This bleeds off the pressure in the tank. Maybe this would help some of you.
That is unless of course the 07's are different.
