Sleeping (well...more like riding) With the "Enemy" This post brings up a question that I have ask a few people I know who have Harleys but don't ride them. Now I don't want to start a war here and if this fits you I would just like to know why you gota bike to begin with. I am very luck to live in NE GA where I can ride most all year. Like I said I know a few guys with Harley Touring Bikes that put maybe 1,200 miles a year on them..don't understand that. I avg abot 10,000a year on my R/G, riding to work and trips etc...why get a bike and let it sit? If you shell out the kind of $$ these bikes cost then why not enjoy them? I am sure that there are people that have reasons and I mean no disrespect to them, but to have something that we all are lucky enough to have and let it sit seems like a shame to me.
Some of us have small children, businesses, and family matters to attend to. We make the CHOICE to see that other obligations are met instead of clicking off miles. We ride when we can and as often as we can. If I only put 3,000 miles a year on a R/G so be it. They are going to be a comfortable 3,000 miles.
My bike is like a boat or a set of golf clubs to me. I ride it when I'm not working, on days that it's not raining. I've drivin it to work a couple of times but that's not what it's for. I got it about 3 months ago and have just over 6000kms on it now. I can't wait for the weekend toride it, but if I drove it every day then it would be no thrill when the weekend comes.
Yep, Its easy to ride if you have the time and nothing gets in the way. I as was said by another, have other things in life that take alot of my time, but still love to ride when I have some free time. I dont ride to work, because I can't see riding the mere 5 miles I go to let the bike sit in the hot parking lot for 9 hours. Why should it matter why or how much others ride.
A buddy of mine bought a used 100th anniv. Road King. He has every harley t-shirt, patch, pin, sticker, license plate,- he even named his dog "harley". I saw him the other day and he asked me how many miles were on my 06 Road Glide. When I told him 15,000, he went nuts. He said he put only 600 miles on his bike it three years!
He truly believesit's gonna be worth something years from now. Who cares. Buy a cd or some stocks and bonds.

I don't fit the description, ie. bagger owner, low mile rider, as mybike is a chopper I built myself and a "bar hopper". The bike is backup for my drive to work and for short hops into town. My pleasure ride is typically 50-100mi of high speed jammin' on the local country roads, mostly on the weekends. I get no pleasure out of cruising along, staring at the white line going by for 100s of miles at a time. I don't put a lot of miles per year on and have no plans to ride to Daytona or Sturgis. My chop is a vibrating, strange handling beast and I love it. My tag isn't Dejavu for no reason. I relive my past everytime I kick the beast to life and drop the clutch!
Everybody has different limitations. My wife has had MS for 22 years and needs 24 hour a daycare. I am that caregiver, except while I am at work (have a nurse aid for work days). Therefore my riding is limited to daytrips during the week by taking a vacation day. This severely limits my miles, but I enjoy the miles I do get very much. AVespa would probably be sufficient for the amount of riding I get in, but I like having my RK none the less.
I put about 8000 miles a year on my Ultra. All weekend riding. Some weekends we will ride 500 miles, other times 100 miles. We don't ride just to put miles on, we usually have a destination for one reason or another. Many people do the Iron Butt rides. That would be torture for me. Just have bike for enjoyment and to get away some weekends. Everyone has different reasons. To each their own.
Like I said I didn't mean any disrespect to anyone, I do understand alot of people have high demand on there time. I am by no means a hard core Biker and I am luck that I have some time to ride without a lot of things demanding my time..besides work which is where most of the miles come from. So thanks to everyone ...and sorry if I offfended anyone. Ride when you can and enjoy it
