My 2005 Ultra engine and exhaust is stock. I am trying to leave it stock but I find myself looking at other exhaust systems. I am even considering leaving the cam chain tensioners stock and do periodic inspections. It sure is hard not to make changes.
On my old 2001 Ultra I put on true duals with free flowing mufflers and put in the gear driven cams.
I am getting an average 45mpg on my 2005. Having a quite motorcycle is allot better on long road trips but I miss the louder exhaust when going through the gears.
Anyone put TC96 2007/2008 stock mufflers on a TC88? How do their soundscompare? Was it worth the effort to change?
Leave it stock. Every time the dealer works on mine the gas milage goes down. it,s down to 35 mpg now. Stock With just the V&H Ovals mine got 50 mpg on a trip with 2 up. Just my .02 worth. Dan
Free flowing exhaust and air cleaner alone (with a mileage-optimized dyno map) won't reduce gas mileage. Might actually help! Optimizing the fuel air mixture for power will. This, combined with the temptation to twist the throttle to hear the exhaust and feel the extra torque will reduce mileage. That's why some of us get 40mpg and others get 35mpg with the same intake/exhaust setups and maps.
I have V&H ovals with their fuel pack and a Ness Big Sucker air cleaner. The sound is all right at times ,but I think I will eventually take these stage 1 items off and go back to stock.A set of 06 mufflers would be nice to get since they were a little deeper tone than the stock exhaust. My milage averages about 45 mpg with the stage 1.
Riding with only the V&H Ovals on mine. Stock air cleaner and ECM.
Pops a little on quick decels but runs great with about 50 mpg.
Love the sound of these pipes.
I have said that on every new bike I ever bought... " It's great the way it is - I'm just going to leave it stock".... $$$$$$ later I'm still looking for new stuff (lol)
I had fullsac duals and PCIII on mine for a while, but couldn't stand the stumble problem and other issues, so took it all off and have been stock with SE slip ons all summer and everything is great.
