I also got hung with the Harley ( made in China ) frt. mount needless to say it lasted about 5 minutes, shook so bad I could not believe it so I put the old one back on and all is well. Yes I took it back to the stealer and as you would expect they have NEVER heard of anybody having a problem with these. We all bought Harleys because they were American at one time, seems like they have forgotten how they came back.
Just had mine replaced on my '07 Road King with 15k miles. In my case it was a warranty fix, but it makes me wonder if this isn't going to be a "maintenance" item in the future where I have to replace it periodically.
I had the same problem with Harleys' "new & improved" motor mount. While I had my bike apart last winter for a 98" build I decided to put the new mount in since it was so easy to do with the bike strippped down. My mount wasn't broken at 7k I just figured I'd replace it after reading about the new style mount. Whats another $30 buckswhen you're spending thousands??? The bike turned into a teeth rattler at idle.I took it down the street for the first ride on the new motor,I could stand the vibes coming through the floorboardsso I turned right around.went back home, put the old mount back in and it's been fine ever since. It really makes me wonder,I've ridden both an 06 streetglide & and an 07 ultra that have the "new" style mount from the factory & they don't vibrate anymore or less than my 05 rk.I didn't care for HDs "new & improved" auto primary tensioner either!!!
How hard is it to install a front motor mount? My bike has started shaking hard in the front and makes kinda of almost banging sound. sounds like its coming from the frame somewhere. Maybe it needs one?
