My 99 Electra Glide Classic came with the king tour pak. After I owned the bike for about a month, I added the detachable hardware and took it off. From that point on I put the tour pak back on the bike twice (when going on trips and carrying my wife's stuff). I hated the thing. IMO it made the bike top heavy. Not to mention, all my chopper and softail buddies thought it was their 'right' to put their jackets and other stuff in it when we were out and about. Hell, one guy got pissed at me when I told him I didn't have room for his and his girlfriend's heavy leather jackets. However, the guy that bought the bike from me last summer put the tour pak back on for good. He loves it. Personal opinion I guess.
I have ride a standard and have the Det King tour pak and even with that and a Deckker Supreme on top of it we still dont have enough room for all her crap. Im begining to wonder if a convertable might not have been a better option.
I've ordered in an '07 Street Glide in Black Cherry and am thinking about getting the chopped tour pak. On a factory custom like this, I just don't think the king tour pak would look right. The extra 3" in height seems to make a real difference.
i intend to do a detachable tour pak...jury's still out....if i do the chopped i'll have to put the backrest with arms on it tho, wonder what it'll look like then..probly do the big one cause like billnourse says, its about utility on a tour
my buddy put the chopped color matched on his 06 street glide with the spoiler and it looks sweet. he says he now wishes he had gone with the full size as the chopped is useless, his is detachable. I put the king on my roadglide with the spoiler non detachable because I added the rear speakers and intercom kit. I like the look better without it but have grown used to it and it is very handy for hauling stuff when touring or just around town, plus you can lock your helmets in it when parked. and most importantly the wife loves it. she isnsisted on it as part of the deal for letting me buy the touring bike. you cannot put the big wrap around backrest on the chopped pack.
I was also thinking of adding a tour pak on my Standard and would only consider the king size one. For the $700 plus dollars for the pak, I was hoping the passenger backrest came with it. Dumb question but does anyone know if it does? The H-D website doesn't say one way or the other...
When you purchase it through HD, nothing but the box comes with it. I even had to buy the lock extra all that was there was a hole.
I have a King tour pack 01 luxury rich red, side lights, back rest, luggage rack, and quick disconnect docking hardware. If anyone is interested in purchase pm me.
