I went with the leather also, stopped by HD and they had the classic sitting on a table with 50% off.I went in for a manual but couldnt pass that one by.They do gouge ya with the QD kit and the rack. The only thing is with the classic leather tour paks is no locking.

I have the regular QD passenger backrest/luggage rack combo on my RKC. The wife complains on longer trips, so when my stealer had their 15% off after Turkey Day sale I went in and ordered a chopped tour pak. "Four to sixteen weeks." I know it is stupid to pay more for a smaller chopped than a king tourpak, but I think it looks better on a RKC and she will be more comfortable; if not, dunno what I will do next.
I think if you don't need the extra room the chopped does nicely and looks cooler, even on Electras. But if you live in a helmet state and wear a 3/4 or full, you probably want a king tourpak; if you wear a 1/2 helmet, chopped works.

I started off with the king tour pak mounted on the detachable rack, color matched from HD birch white, all the lock hardware, keyed to my key number, detachable rack $645.83 for everything from zannotti's.found the pillow look king tour pak back rest(brand new) online at another HD dealer shipped $142.00 to my door
I had the dealer install everything while it was in winter storage,600 miles after having it all installed the tour pak rack was loose at the docking points, had the plastic sleeves replaced on the docking hardware attached to the bike, tightened it up nice and tight,500 miles later it was loose at the docking points again, the plastic sleeves had shallow dents on top and lower sides of the plastic from the racks mounting point, cause of this wearing out so fast, who knows. dont know it if had anything to do with my adding 1 1/8" of spacing to clear the police bags,I dont beleive it did. I ended up spending $40.00 for the bolt on rack and mounting the king tour pak non removable.
I wonder if HD had a bad run on the plastic"points" of the docking hardware, I have read about other's on the forum, having the very same problem with looseness of the docking points with the detachable tour pak racks.

I got the King simply because it seemed logical for a detachable. If I need storage, I want a lot of storage. (Read that: my wife needs the room) If I'm riding solo I take it off altogether. And I'm not one of those who "hardly ever" take it off. It's so simple to do that it's not that much trouble--unscrew the antenna connector and pop it off.

i've often wondered about those plastic docking points, seems to me, aluminum would be a better choice

To me it seems silly to get the small one from the point of utility. Tour Paks are just that...they are not anything for looks, simply utility. I would get the full sized job...

Mac
Ditto what Mac says. Let's face it - no one is buying a tour pac for looks, be it chopped or king. If you're gonna get one - get the king. It's practically the same price and holds a lot more gear. Both the king and chopped look decent on the bike, but the bike looks better without either one, which is the beauty of quick-detachable.

This is the way to go. Why spend 1100 bucks for a box when this one looks just as good... Add some HD stickers and most won't even know it cost 110 bucks.

Get a cheap one....it's only for trips. Then put it on the detachable kit like I have, works great.

Not necessarily true that "most won't know". Everybody knows what HD tourpaks look like. If that doesn't matter, fine. I'm the first one to buy aftermarket instead of HD if the quality is the same. Just don't kid yourself into thinking that very few will know the difference if owning "HD" is important to you.

I see your point but your giving non bagger owners alot of credit. The majority of non bagger owners don't know what comes with what model and what the names are much less every tour pack configuration...
If you put some HD pin striping and sticker on it, it'll get by about 99% of em. Wont fool any tour pack owners though.. but who cares about that anyway. It's not a contest.
