My wife and I took our first overnight trip on the 2001 SE Road Glide this past weekend. It was a short trip (1.5 hours one way). The weather was great with temperatures in mid 70's. We packed light and everything fit in the side bags and chopped tour pack without using the luggage rack. I did not take the cover and woke up to a wet bike but I wiped it down and the sun dried it the rest of the way. The 2003 J&C CB and intercom worked great and we talked back and forth the entire way. I stayed off the interstate as she gets nervous and I do not care for it either. She commented on the way home that is bike stuff was kind of cool so I think she will be up for another trip maybe even a longer one.
Good for you and her. Take her out a little at a time..and always stop when she wants too. Break her in easy and you will be able to ride more and more often.
My wife and I are planning an overnight in the next couple of weeks, dest: Charleston SC.
She is pretty excited to get away after a week in Disney with the kids--any where is fine with me.
She said she not ready for my Blue Ridge Parkway run yet.
Good for you. My wife and I have been into bikes for many years. Finding things we both enjoy has contributed to a 28 year marriage. OK..so I did the dance lessons and ceramic's class. I've also made a point of taking a motorcycle class every couple of years just to keep my skills sharp. Much of the enjoyment she gets in cycling is knowing that I'm a safe knowledgeable driver.....I owe her that.
I am lucky, I was on my bikemy wife was following me in the carwhen a car cut in front of me and I t-boned it at 40mph, I was lucky and only had a crush injury to my right leg, nerve and muscle only, I totaled his 79 Olds. she was freaked at the time, but now we have been on several long day rides 500 plus miles. Two years of whining and getting a new bike, I took a ton of pics on my rides and showed her what she was missing. Worked for me.
