It scares me when I know more about service than a dealer, and I know practically nothing. Find a new dealer.

I was told the same thing by a dealer in VA, i won't mention any names but it is located of I-77 in Wytheville. They looked at me like i was talking some foreign language. Funny that a different dealer in the same state was able to do it.

I actually spoke with 2 different dealers here in VA and they all said the same thing to me. maybe the just dont like me not spending enough money in the store. well i dont know what to say other than me maybe going out of state to get the ECM recalibrated. really im not making this up not just the service manager but the mechs as well. said only thing to do right now is the slip ons. they did say the SERT was now available for order but probably back order item. yeah give me your money now and ill gladly give you your hamburger on friday. well dont know what else to do at this point. sorry blueroad didnt mean to high jack your thread my mistake thought your was an 08 as well.

I was told the same thing about the download at the parts counter a while back. The next time I went in I asked again and was told that the download was available but that they push the SERT in order to get a better "tune" on the bike. Basically they said they didn't recommend it anymore because sometimes the bike doesn't always run right afterwards.. Or something to that effect.

That's a shame! I have the SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers, the SE Stage 1 Intake, and the Stage 1 Download. The bike runs fantastic! I am a big fan of the download, but I also have all HD parts. Others with aftermarket parts may have different experiences.

They are just trying to milk you of money. I had the SE a/c put on, with Rineharts, and they did a stage 1 download. Cant say if they did the racing or street version,(heard theres 2 different ones), but it runs fine. Just had my 1k service done, and went synth, and runs better if anything now. Now my friend who has an 07 also, same setup on an FLHX, his dealer would only do a SERT, then told him to bring it in at 1k to dyno it. Upon taking it in for the dyno, they requested he sign a waiver, releasing the dealer of responsibility if they grenade the engine while dyno'ing it. He argued that the bikes new and under warranty. They countered, its had parts put on, its void. Long story short, dyno wasnt done, 1k service done at another dealer. From what I read, the harley ecm design is flawed, and isnt very effective. Either get a piggy back system or go TMAX, or DTT.

I have a new 07 RKC that I want todo a stage 1 SE/AC and put on some Rush 2" pipes. That's all I want to do as far and the engine goes. I went to 2 dealers in the DC area, and asked hoe much it cost to have a Stage 1 ECM download/flash/recalibration, expecting it to be around $175 or so. All I got was the struck deer look. Service didn't know what I was talking about and sent me to parts which sent me back to service. Finally an old timer sales person told me that harley didn't do this on bikes newer than '05, but that If I wanted to do AC, I should get a SERT ($460). Plus I guess I need dyno time on top of that. Well, that's great if a person has the disposible income and might be doing multiple mods, but I only want to do these two things and the end. I see a lot of people here claiming that they have had Harley dealer to a stage1 ECM flash. Am I being flim-flammed by the local dealers or what? Do I need to get out to the country to get this? If I get a 3rd party Fuel Management System, won't that screw-up my warrenty? I see plenty of people in this forum running 06's -07's here with a PC III, fuelpak, etc. I like the HD product, but I am concerned that if anything ever happened to the bke, they would blame it on the 3d party modification. A little trust issue there.

All the HD catalogue says regarding the SE Air Filter is:

"NOTE: Recalibration is required for proper installation, and will allow engine to rev to 6200 RPM. See dealer for details. Labor cost not included. When installed by an authorized Harley-DavidsonÂŽ Dealer, these kits do not impact the vehicle's limited warranty."

You can get any fuel management system you want. The flash is available for your bike, obviously, because a lot of guys here have done it. I have a '05 with a carb, so it does not apply to me, but I read a ton of posts that others have had it done. BTW, read this http://www.dynosources.com/dept.asp?d_id=203&l1=203. This is a federal law. What it states, in a nutshell, is you can add any aftermarket parts you like, without voiding your warranty. Same for the type of oil you use. Some dealers might tell you anything but what they sell will void your warranty. They can't do that, unless they offer the parts, or oil (in my example) free of charge. The dealer will have to prove that any modification that you added to your bike caused the failure in the area of your warranty claim. If they try and pull that crap of you, print out the law, and take it with you. If they still threaten you (and that is what they initially try to do), have them give it to you in writing. that way, when you sue them, you have proof of their deception.

To all new Forum members. Be aware that postsmay contain "opinions"disguised as facts. H-D built over 300,000 '07 motorcycles, all with EFI and according to STREETGLIDEOK the ECM is flawed.

Really!!!!. All 300,000+ motorcycles.
Hadn't heard that one before. Anybody else???
