Don't do it!! Don't want the best kept secret out there to be in the open. Went in to buy a RK Classic. Came out with the RG. Best move ever. When I see another guy on a 'Glide we just exchangea look knowing we are on to something special.
As for the ones that think it's ugly (I never claimed itwas sexy) These are the same guys that say in other posts that it doesn't matter what other people think and they are right. I have my bike for me. If you want a sexy bike that gets a lot of compliments don't get a RK get a 03 Screamin' Eagle Deuce or a Deluxe. Now that's sexy.
I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on an '08 RK but all the positive reports of the RG are making me think I should at least check one out. Am wondering though, what it's like being stuck behind that fairing in 80+ temps? Do you still get enough air flow to make it bearable? Can windscreens be swapped? One of the big attractions of the RK is being able to detach that screen in just a few seconds.
I know that some guys get the clearview windshield with the built in vent. For me, I don't see the need. It was 90+ here this summer and I was fine as long as I kept moving. The fairing blocks some but not all of the air. If I wanted no hot air I'd drive me car with the AC on.
I have heard that the RG have the best ride, the fixed fairing just doesn't appeal to me. Maybe it will grow on me. You could save some bucks and keep your king and add a fairing with a radio (my radio kicks ) and even a detachable Tour pak. You then have the option of stripping it all off in about 10 min. But then again, ifI had the bucks, I would have gotten an Ultra ClassicScreaming Eagle!
I was pondering trading in my 07' Uktra for an 08' RG. I rode an 05' today for about 60 miles. I rode behind an 18 wheeler for 10 miles on purpose. It was not so bad. On my Ultra you can't stand riding behind an 18 wheeler for very long. The fixed fairing is not even an issue for me. It took me about 1 minute to get used to it. People seem to worry about the fixed fairing for some reason. If they are looking at their fairing when they are turning they have a problem. I am looking around the turn not at the front wheel. It didn't take me long to figure out the Ultra is going for the RG with the ABS and fly by wire. That 05 was sweet but they wanted too much for it and I didn't like the color. T.
I went from my dream bike - '06 Road King standard with cruise - to a '07 Road Glide because the RK didn't really fit me. The RG fits like it was made for me. I like the spacious feeling of the RG, and I love the ride! If it was stolen today, I'd buy another.
You won't be disappointed! I went from an 02 RK, toan 08 RG, couldn't be happier and don't ever see myself going back. For putting on the miles this is the best bike the MOCO made/makes. Shame what they did to the 2010 models IMO! Pull the trigger and welcome to the darkside!
