Default Belt adjustment

Does the bike need to be on a lift/standto adjust the belt or can it be on the jiffy stand? I cannot find anywhere in the 07 manual where it specifies a requirement. My other question is, if I have my 36mm wrench on theleft (welded ) side, whattool do you use to hold the right (clip side)?

I don't know about the '07 models but my '08 manual says to check it with 10 psi in the shocks and on the jiffy stand. 3/8-7/16" deflection with 10 pounds force applied at the midpoint of the bottom belt strand.

I know on a 06 fatboy you do it with the bike upright without anyone sitting on it. I read a post before about the wrench needed. I hate to be one of those guys but try a search on the rear axle. they wear talking about wear to buy the proper wrench.

I adjusted mine on the jiffy stand. Then I checked it upright and it was good.

"Motorcycle upright with rear wheel in the air or on jiffy stand without rider or luggage."

3/8" - 7/16" deflection except for the short-shock bikes which spec 1/4" - 5/16"

i always did it on a bike lift... the mcy comes with thewrench .. unless u never got it. . + u dont need to hold or secure the other side of the axel..
ps: the tension is not THAT critical.. Make it tight not too tight.. Ive owned many HD's since the early 80'S all berlt drives..Never any issues..

Here is an earlier thread on belt adjustment.

https://www.hdforums.com/m_2231619/tm.htm

I cannot get anyone who seems to know if, in the 06 service manual, the instruction to adjust the belt, "at the loosest point" is a misprint and dealer says he sees many overtightened belts. It will whine if too tight and can cause premature wear and, apparently, bearing wear. Anybody have REAL info on this. Do they really mean to adjust at the TIGHTEST POINT? Would seem right to me. I am now just adjusting on the sidestand per the manual but to 1/2 " at the TIGHTEST POINT and it seems to work fine. No whine but pretty taught when warmed up.
