As you can see you are getting mixed answers but that is the norm. Decisions can be real flustrating sometimes. Especialy when you have 2 good choices. Consider this:
Bikes are a personal thing. Adding the personal touch whether it is a big bore or custom wheels adds to your personality. We all like power and bling, I am a out out chrome *****. I also wnat my bike to run good. This is a decision you need to make, it's your mark you are making not ours. Good luck and no matter what you do you win.

What big bore kit? If you are talking about an HD SE kits, they don't make enough power/torque for the $$$, IMHO. And your current set-up is okay for you and acceptable for two-up.

Get some nice wheels and tires, then post pics. My $.02

I did both. The wheels came first because I did not want to get stranded with tube tires and a flat. Well my concerns regarding a flat never came to pass before I traded in the bike, but I sure enjoyed the Big Bore Kit.

Another opinion... I have a 2000 RKC with aHD big bore kitand it is chromed out pretty well. I bought an 07 Ultra and did a HQ 103 build on it last winter. There is ABSOLUTELY no comparison in the grins dept.
I guarantee nobody even knows if PhilM's bike has any chrome on it at all as he pulls that wheelie down the road.
If your fun is on the road ...do the HQ, GMR, etc
Ifits in the parking lot...go chrome
Or do both...get your compression releases chromed.

Would you get some nice chrome wheels ora big bore first?

My wife and I are pretty heavy together and the bike is sluggish ridding 2 up. However it's not like I'm racing anyone and most of my riding is riding alone (no other bikes).

But the rims on the other hand will be a sure head turner and I am adicted to bling.

Before someone say it, I can't afford to do both at the same time.
Let me see a pic of the wheels then I'll decide.

Big Bore for sure. More chrome = more cleaning time, less riding. Big Bore = Big Smiles

mike
Of course, another way to look at it is Big Bore = More downtime due to reliability issues.

I went with the wheels first earlier this year. Next bonus(es) I get will go towards the Tour Pak and bumping it up to 95". That done properly seems to be the biggest performance gain for the $$$ with the least sacrifice of reliability.

Motor first! Chrome won't get you home, but a big bore will get you home..........FASTER!

Gotta go with the 95" Big Bore kit here!!

You've got those chubby apes, and the laced wheels looknice with your WWW tires as it stands. YOU won't even see the new chrome wheels when riding, but you will feel that big bore pull, as will your wife!!! Igot the 95" SE kit first, and last Summer it was an entirely different bike after break-in. You can really notice it when you're cruising and encounter those steep inclines, even at 60 mph!

In the meantime, as someone else posted, you can takeyour time to decide which wheels will do your ride justice. Ride that 95" kit first, you'll be happy you did. It's not about the speed, it's about the torque, man!! I can pull out tree stumpswith my 04 Road King!!! (I just added laced wheels in March.)
