I don't understand you guys that can only do about 90. Back in '02, I rode across I90 to Sturgis with my speedo broke (as usual on the way to Sturgis) and the tach set at 4K-4100. That's over 90 on my bike, and there were twinkies passing me like I was standing still.
I always think it is best to optimize what you have rather than build a big/hot motor. In my philosophy, it gives you the most reliabiltiy and most performance for your money.
The fastest I have gone on a motorcycle is about 120, back in the 70's on a friends Kawasaki 750 triple. Had my 02 FLHR up to about 100-105. My 07 FLHR has been up to 95-100. I seem to slow down as I get older. Both of my touring bikes had the highspeed wobble. I have a True Trackinstalled on my 07 which helps considerably.
My Harleys are geared tall 2:05 and 2:09 the winshield limits the top end.Going through the gears, having fun, I always see the needle going past the 120 mark.So smooth it's hard to believe it's that fast.No need to go any faster.Tall gearing is mainly for turnpike cruising.
