I shook the bars at 160 kay 100mph on a 07 flht no wobbles but the front end was bouncing on country roads downunder so brought some progresive springs 103 pistons and 255 cams when fitted let you know the best top speed This bike is rock solid compared to my 06 dyna.Wow I love this bike and its not for Sale so don't ask
I've never really noted a "top speed." I know both the RKC and Ultra cruise comfortably at 80-85 on the open freeway and still have the gonads to pull out and pass. However, I prefer to ride in the lower speed ranges on the quite back-country roads.
Fast has its place, but I prefer leasurly ...in my old age!
I've pinned the needle once, but I quickly discovered I hate going that fast on a Harley. But I think 85 mph is a beautiful ride on a Road King, that is, if the traffic is also perked up to that speed--which is used to be all the time in South Florida when we lived there. In fact, merging onto I-95 in North Miami, the on-ramp speed your a$$ better be in is at least 85 mph or more. It is interesting that Wes at Cycle-Rama is doing the work to build the first 200 mph, street-legal Harley-Davidson. As always, though, the project is hush-hush until it's done. For most of us, however, keeping it about 5 or 10 over the speed limit makes for the best rides, imo.
I was on the interstate two-up and passed a few cars and didn't let off the throttle right away and was really shocked to see I was doing 103. Bike seemed like it wasn't struggling at all unlike my Vulcan that felt as if it was going to pop doing 95. I later heard about the "high speed wobble" and that scared the chit out of me.
I had my '91 FXRS to 100 mphonce when it was newer. It felt fine except for the fact that the engine was near redline.
Had my '07 FLHTC to 90 mphjust two weekends ago while passing a long line of traffic on a 2-lane road. Very stable. You guys with the wobblies need to put more air in your shocks. Or maybe in your tires. Or maybe more lead in your pencil.
