I'm sure this has been ask before, but is there any way to bend the pass. back rest back 1/2" - 1" without flaking the chrome? I pulled on it a little, and its seems almost impossible. Any one do this? The reason i am asking is it looks like it leans forward to much, and the wife complains some times that she is not setting straight up. Its on a 06 roadglide. Thanks
i doubt it. Since the chrome is 'fused' onto the metal of the backrest frame, bending the frame would break the fusion and crack the chrome plating. I flaked off a piece of chrome on my tour pack rack just by tightening the bolts too much.
Here's how to gain an inch or more of space and change the angle. If you look at the bracket that the rear mount for the sissy bar bolts into, there is another hole below it where the metal strap attaches. Take the strap loose and use it to mark a hole halfway between the present one for the rear sissy bar attaching point and the lower hole in the bracket.
If you look at how this changes your sissy bar mount, what it does is allow it to rotate kinda back and down as it would swing through an arc. My wife is a plus size gal and I did this mod two years ago. It makes a difference when you're looking for a little more room. Once the sissy bar is attached, you can't tell anything is different.
This may sound a little confusing but if you'll look at the mounting bracket I think you'll be able to see it. If not, let me know and I'll take some pictures.
Thanks neckball, I looked at it and thats what I was kidda thinking, but wasnt sure if it would work, sounds like it will, I'll give it a try. Anything is better than trying to bend it.
If you dont have to have a detachable look at the 4 channel rack with the built on backrestpart Number 53341-97 it is adjustable or look at this link if you have to have a detachable one http://www.moccsplace.com/images/harley/fcrack/rack.htm
