Default Fatcat and Thundermax

Can anyone who has installed a Thundermax in a Fat cat on an 05 or earlier Electra-glide give me any hints on installing the sensors? I read in here where they should fit but it looks like the bung holes are positioned wrong, the front hits the oil filter and the rear hits the starter electrical post. Did anyone else have this problem? I was really looking forward to not having to dyno tune any more. If it won't work then I guess there will be a brand new Thundermax up for sale soon. All help appreciated.

I've installed a Thundermax with Fatcat on a '05 Ultra Classic............and had no issues at all.

I've installed a DTT system with Fatcat on my '05 Ultra Classic............and no issues there either.

Did you put in the o2 bungs or were they already in the pipe when you bought it?

I put the pipes on the bike before I got the Tmax. In trying to install the sensors the rear sensor hit the starter lug and will not go in straight enough to get the threads started, maybe could fit if I pulled the headers and installed but looks like it would rub. The front however angles down toward the oil filter and there is no way it would clear. I have been told there were some defective headers put out, but since I bought mine used I may be stuck. I'm going to give D&D a call tomorrow and see what they say. Thanks for the reply.

When I put the DTT system on my bike, the exhuast was already installed. All I did was remove the bung plugs and install the o2 sensors.................the front one is close to the oil filter but is still about 2" away, and the rear one is not even close to the tranny cover...........maybe 2-3" of clearance.

Sounds like you have bad bungs.

John ~

Are the bungs on your pipe mounted such that the sensors are @ a 90 degree angle with the pipe, or are they at more like a 45 degree angle?

The older pipes had the 90 degree ones that sometimes cause clearence issues. Mine was that way. I took it back to D&D (they are local) and they simply replaced the bungs with the 45 degree ones and all is well. It took all of about 30 minutes for them to fix.

I had the same problem with a set of fatcats and didn't notice until after I added the auto tune module. D&D had a few sets of headers go out with the bungs welded on incorrectly. I called for support to D&D and they replaced the headers no charge. I did have to wait while they received mine and get a new set shipped. Otherwise there weren't any hassles other than pulling it apart, removing the heat shields, etc.

if you need just a touch of clearance you can put an old plug in the bung, and use a map gas torch and heat up the bung and tweak it a bit, or just take the pipe off and get some 45degree bungs put in, dont sell your tmax, just takes a little effort to get a whole lot of good results.

Thanks for all the responses. I contacted D&D and they are sending me a set of the new bungs, I'll just have to find a shop to put them in for me.
