You must use the HD Pump. If you try to use anything else all of the air will leak out of the suspension system when you disconnect the air chuck.
The HD pump prevents air loss while disconnecting the chuck.

I went back and forth too. Gotthe pump. Never regreted it. Worth the money. Keep it on the bike.

Me too I tried a 12 volt compressor but the air leaks out before you could unhook it, I bought the HD pump and it works great and is easily stored in thee bags. It sure akes riding two up more enjoyable.
