Default Chrome Outer Primary Install

How easy or difficult is it to install a chrome outer primary cover on a 2004 FLHT? I have decent mechanical skills, but have not done anything beyond basic boltons.

Thanks

Dave

Outer primary is very easy - use a new gasket and use a torque wrench so all bolts are tightened evenly - even a cave man could do it .

New forum member here. I just purchased a 07 Dyna FXD and would like to know the steps to change the outer primary to Chrome. I have a chrome outer on the way and need some direction. If you can help it would be appreciated

You need to remove the left rear passenger floorboard and the left rider floorboard. You will obviously need to drain the primary. Remove each allen bolt and install new primary cover with a new primary gasket. Install each bolt and torque in sequence as shown in the manual to 108-120 inch pounds (if ya ain't got a manual, basically you start with the top middle bolt then bottom middle working your way to the left (front of the bike)doing the top then the bottom then you do the rear in the same pattern.) Make sure the gasket is on properly so's ya don't get any leaks. Then refill primary through the derby opening with bike upright until the fluid is to the bottom of the clutch basket (32oz basically). Install derby using new gasket. Simple job really.
