Default To lower or not to lower

I just purchased a 2008 electraglide classic. went from a 2006 electraglide ultra. This bike seems to be taller than the 06. I am 5' 6" tall and considering having it lowered 1"...Is there problems having this done? Any side effects etc? I have ridden it 950 miles and love it except for the height.

I would not mess with the suspension , get a lower seat , that should solve your problem.

I recently lowered my Road King. Handles as good as ever and much easier to back up.

Put 12" Progressive shocks on the back and have seat modified by BadX from this forum, you will love the results.

Depends on how hard you ride your bike. IMO, I would never lower a ride. I drag the boards all the time now.

If you have never touched down, then maybe an inch wouldn't make a difference, but I would think you should try a lower seat first.

got a buddy who used harleys lowering kit and hated it, he was dragging the bottom when he and his wife had the bike loaded on long trips, also he lost alot of comfort.

Get a set of 13inch progressive 440s(stock length on dressers except flhrs & flhx models). They sit a little lower than stock.BTW,My 07 StreetGlide came from the factory with a 1inch lower shock than your bike,12inch & I put a set of 12.5" 440s on it.It sits lower than stock for some reason. Also, the stock air shocks don't work very well for me IMHO.Regards,Tom

Talk to the guys here at Mean City Cycles. They can fix your seat so that it lowers you and pushes you forward (if needed) without any loss in comfort. They can probably throw in some gel pads to give you more comfort while being able to set flat footed. I've heard nothing but good things about them. You can lower the front and back of your glide like I did but you will lose a little in the ride quality. It didn't bother me at all but I'm not riding an Ultra either.

lots of conflict between lowering and not lowering... Should I should I not? Will it work, won't it work? Some have, some haven't.

Lots of lowering going on in my area of the world but also lots of complaints of increased "stiffness" felt in the seat of the pants.. Even heard some say the bike now feels like riding a Sportster with a pillow seat.

Spoke with my service mgr. about the same thing on Saturday. Lowering kit seen on Ebay apparently moves the rear shocks, and he says puts
them into a real bind. Can cause shock failure, much rougher ride, and he basically said don't do it, not worth it.

Lowering shocks by Harley or some aftermarket can lower the rear end about 1 inch. Next step if that is not enough is to lower the front end, which I understand is very costly. (heck the short shocks from Harley are $275.00) easy install.
