Following all steps in the manual... CB just fails to perform as advertised! Rocker switch set to rear speakers, CB indicated in display, squelch set but no reception of CB! What could I be doing wrong?
Com volum?! I'll have to recheck that.. Never considered it had anything to do with it.. Just thought the radio volum was all I needed to set! Thanks for your reply.
Also make sure you have the correct cables to your headset. You need 7 pin....5 pin will not right properly
Thanks for your help... but at this point, I'm trying to see if I can get the CB to work without the head-set.. Manual states it can be heard through the regular speaker .... Even now after checking the COM volume I still can not hear the CB coming through the speakers even though the radio does mute itself when an apperant transmission is being received... but no sound! Guess I'll be back to the shop for more education on this thing..
General replys from the shop is " Oh, nobody uses the CB these days anyway and you probably won't get much needed use for it" Now doesn't that sound like a stupid reply to a buyer who just spent over 20K for an Ultra!...
If ya want, gimme a holler real quick - I'm gonna PM ya mah number. I home office, so ah kin step out into the garage an' we can go over stuff real quick.
Speaker switch must be rocked all the way to the back. you have a front, middle and back setting,. Set the squelch all the way down and have the volume up. Should hear the CB then. If no one is talking you should hear static with the squelch all the way down. Thats the way it works on my Ultra.
CB still no workie even after all the replies and re-checks... Took it to dealer today and even the techs (wrenches) couldn't get it to sound-off as the manual says... They tried it on silent mode with the headset and noted that it is receiving a signal from time to time but an internal failure that mutes the radio then sends the sound to the speakers is probably the problem... They (the dealership) is contacting the factory tomarrow to discuss this problem..
Appearantly, I'm not alone with this issue as they said between 2 local dealerships at least 2 out of 10 Model year 08 Ultra's are having the same issue and that very many of the 07's have the problem. Model year 08 with it's new softwar was suppose to correct many of the problems but there is a switching circit that is hardware and not a softwar issue..... Will keep you posted!
CB is now working... This is an update for alcon... Before dealership went crazy on tearing out their hair and mine too.. They first tried to update the radio softwar only to discover that all 08's built August through now has the lates softwar avail. Then they tested CB on other bikes and found 2 of 4 tested also to be inop.
After a couple hours back and forth on the phone with Harley tech services they finaly found the problem. The fix also got the new unsold bikes operational.
So here it is... Some of you may know that there is a big coil for the CB antenna located under the tour pac liner... Seems as if during bike assembly at the factory, someone neglected to securly fasten the antenna ground wire to the large metal plate in the bottom of the tour pac and therefor, the CB's so called "ground plane" capabilities were lost. The CB antenna would only pickup a carrier wave signal without the voice transmission! Once all the ground wire were checked and tightened all is good.
Now the wire was in place and a nut was on the stud but somewhat loose. New metal such as the large plate in the tour pac sometimes has the manufactures thin oil film still on it and that along with the loosness of the nut prevented a solid connection..
So for all us old geezers, clean your plate and check your nuts if ya can't hear the citizen band.
