EGC/SG
Got tagged on my bike a few weeks ago, bikes totaled so the other driver's insurance company is gonng to buy me a new one, (with a little arm twisting)
.
I'm looking at the electra glide classic or the SG. I may be completely ignorant, but as I see it I can get the EGC for $20.00 more (MSRP) and that includes the Tour Pak, addititional chrome, some other cosmetic differances. I realize the seat height is different and the suspension and weight is different, seems to me the EGC is a better buy for a base to start customizing or am I mssing something major as far as the difference? I've ridden them both, like them both.
Thanks

This topic is very well covered on this site...and you will find a zillion different opinions on the matter. They are different bikes that appeal to different people for different reasons. If you try to cost out each part you will drive yourself nuts.
It is no different than if you evaluate 2 trim levels of a car. The trim level with a high end stereo may list for $500 more than one without the stereo. But to add the stereo to the lesser expensive car would be $1,200.
The EGC has a tourpack...the SG has silver gauges. I am not telling you 1 is more valuable than the other...just that there are differences that are tough to quantify.

...to me it's really simple.. if you are still in the stage of life where it's important to you that you look "cool'..then the Street-Glide is THE bike...if you are past that and want the bike that will give you the MOST bang-for-the-buck...then the E-Glide Classic cannot be beat...no-way........no how...ask me how I know..
Both of these guys are right. I own an 07 SG and I feltI was not ready to ride a Geezer Glide yet (Sorry). The EG Classic gives you a much better bang for the buck. Tour Pack $1,100, saddle bag protectors, $250, passing lamps $500 and the ability to remove these items to givethe EG a slammed look (especially that dorky front bumper) with an optional seat and quick release mounts. You have two bikes in one with the EG. Long haul comfort machine and local cruiser. But pass a SG on the road and you immediately know what it is and want one!
Most stuff for the buck... EGC. BANG for your buck. SG!
What kind of rider are you. Around town? Saturday/Sunday cruises or long haul (overnights)?
Around town and day cruises fit the SG well. And you get to look good doing it.
The tourpak is a must if your doing long trips. You gotta have somewhere to put your stuff.
