Default streetglide problems?

I know I'm going to get an earful here, after all this is a harley fourm, but remember thats why I'm here. New to riding the last 5 years after a 20 year life brake. LOL. and it turns out the type of riding I do a touring bike suits my riding style better. But don't want a full blown dresser, hence street glide comes in, hard bags, fairing, radio........ best of both worlds, still have some bling and thehot rod look. I've been hanging around the last few months and have the pipes, seat, bag extensions already picked out and other mods to customize it to make it mine. Planning to purchase in the beginning of the year,( I get all my overtime paid in one check at the end of the year) I currently have a 2004 victory kingpin. My buddy made the plunge and bought an 07 leftover streetglide. I got a chance to ride it and I wasn't impressed. I'm trying to keep an open mind, and tell myself that a lot of it I will get use to just used to my bike, but.................. some issues that I have
1. The floorboards, my size 8 boot won't stay on, couldn't believe how narrow they where, let alone be able to move my foot around.
2. The brakes, the first stop sign scared the hell out of me I didn't think I was going to stop, I really had to grab a handful. Hope the brembo on the 08 are better. Brembo's are on the victory.
3. the first stop sign I almost broke my wifes foot. Her foot is on my calf so she will have to move her foot evertime I stop.
4. the 92cu vic motor will run circles around the harley96. Already proven. both have stage one pipes and a/c.
5. Suspension is a little firm, but may not be not a bad thing only on the bike for an hour.
6. My foot doesn't fit under the shifter have to use the heel shifter, looks like that is adjustable.
everything can be changed to suit me thats half the fun, but the motor is big bucks, and the postion of the footpegs your stuck.
I don't intend this to be a rant or bash I'm here because the parts are available to customize it the way I want, vic aftermarket is terrible.
so my questions are......... Anybody have any suggestions with thepassenger footpegs, never heard a complaint on that but I can't be the only one.
The added inch suspension on the EC make that big adifference? I'm talking about alot of money to get the bike the way I want it, is it worth it? A lot of money just to bring it up to victory standards that I'm use to. Why??? Trying to talk myself into it but I shouldn't have to do that of settle for something. HELP..........

..happens every time I ride a different bike..each has it's own personality and you really can't compare to your everyday ride. As with any new ride, you adjust to some stuff..change some stuff and make it yours.
Your issues:
1. Size 8..you shouldn't have any problems keeping feet on boards..get a few miles and see if you adjust.
2. The brakes should stop easily...lever pressure is different than your vic.
3. Passenger floorboards..
4. 96 can run strong with a little tweaking.
5. You can adjust shifter peg up very easily.
You might want to rent a coupla different HD's and see what you like.

I'm going with Heritage on this one...Starting a post like this is not going to produce results you are looking for. Besides, it sounds like you have your mind made up. Enjoy the Victory and be safe, but remember, the reason you rode the HD was because you are not 100% satisfied with the Victory.

Bruce,
Welcome. Not being a smartazz but you should probably buy the Victory. I have owned metric bikes (I know Victory is US made) and they were great, trouble free bikes that got me where I was going. Owning a Harley is more emotional than practical. You buy a Harley because you like the look, the sound, the feel, etc. Riding, for me, is more enjoyable on my Harley. I never sat in my garage and stared at my metric bikes!! Hope that makes sense. Good luck on your decision.

Are the Streetglide's boards smaller than an Ultra's? My size 11's on my Ultra are fine. There are plenty of different boards our there of different sizes if you want. Your wife must be hanging her feet off the front of her boards or something. I rarely notice my wife's foot.

Probably the main thing that scares me away from Victory is their dealer network, or lack thereof. Many of their dealers are actually John Deere tractor dealerships and such. Not real confidence inspiring for me. I also understand that they are not real careful about who becomes a dealer so many of their dealerships are undercapitolized and go out of business at a pretty high rate. Contrast that with Harley dealerships. HD is very careful about who becomes a dealer and makes sure they can afford it. In addition, just about every little town out there has an indy who can handle working on yourHD should you be stranded somewhere and parts are rarely more than a couple of hours away.

Lastly, and I know this sounds snobbish, but there is truth to the saying that there are two kinds of riders out there...Those who own Harleys and those who want to own Harleys.

Bruce, you just planted yourself firmly in one of the lowest classes of motorcycle & internet troll. Every internet group has more than it's share of you characters that are too lazy or stupid to make decisions on your own yet drift in & use some half assed "comparison request" to either brag about your current ride or slap some other brand with backhand comments. Grow a set of *****, make a decision on what *you* want to ride & drag this troll crap out of here with you.
