Test rode a SG & RG back to back...bought the RG! Comes in on Wednesday. I strongly suggest you find a dealer that will let you do a good test ride to find out what YOU like?
I'm biased since I have one. I liked what came with my RG. On the other hand, I am adding a tourpak. You will find a lot of guys make their road glides into "Ultra Glides" so they can take long trips with all their stuff. I can tell you that it cost some pretty big money to do that (around 1K) with detachable hardware and tourpak.
I do love the stereo with upgreaded Hogtunes speakers. I also like the cruise control.
Also keep in mind that you will be paying the "Harley Tax." which can approach 1K. If you don't know about that tax, you soon will as you research Stage 1 upgrade options.
Do I like the fixed fairing? YES! If you plan on cruising the freeway, it is great. Also, the weight is off the bars so the front end feels much lighter than the other fairing models.
These are just my biased opinions. You will have to make up your own mind. I suggest renting a couple bikes to find out. You will be spending some BIG bucks on your bike WHEN you buy it and AFTER you buy it. Believe me, I've spent nearly $2000 on mine since I bought it for 18K. Other will back me up on this.
Whats better Ford/Chevy = get your self a beer and sit back,,,,, surprised you Only have 10 posts... this has been a debate for a LONG time here... it is really up to you .... RK<EG<RG all great bike DEPENDING on what YOU are looking for...
Pretty much covered by now, but I'll add the frame mounted fairing is a breeze to ride in real high winds. My buddy on his Ultra was exhausted after a day fighting 35-40mph cross winds and I was fine. The wind doesn't push on your arms because that goes right into the frame. You just lean a little bit off one side of your seat to compensate for the wind. Slow speed manuevering is easier with the weight off the front end. I love my RG, this will be the only model I will buy from here out
I was stuck between buying a Street Glide or the Road Glide. I rented both bikes and I now own a 07 Road Glide. Do yourself a favor and rent the Road Glide. A quick test ride will not do the bike justice. I like all Harley's but my favorite is the Road Glide. I was told by the salesman thatthe Road GlideisHarley's best kept secret. The Road Glide is HD's touring sport bike.
Yeah, I too went into my local dealer and hopped on the Street Glide and took it for a test ride. The dealer also had a RG sitting right at the front door. First time I went by thinking it was weird looking. The next few times I thought it wasn't so bad. The last time I went in and thouht it looked damn good and I want a ride. I bought the RG for the look and the ride
Just got one,as I said in my introductory post to the Touring section of HDF: It's a rider's bike from front to back,it's handling ability is incredible.HD sells a lot more Electra Glides so those havemore available as far as aftermarket add ons as compared to the Road Glides...But that said I like the Road Glide a lot pretty much the way it comes right out of the packing crate.Very pleased with mine,I plan on riding it for many years.
The fairing on the Electra/Ultra Glides is wider across and sits closer to your body so it keeps wind and rain off you a little more effectively...a plus in crummy or cold weather, but the frame mounted fairing of the Road Glide contributes greatlyto it's outstanding handling qualities.
I consider the Road Glide a bit more of a "Sports Touring" bike, you can load it down like crazyif you want, add a tour pack etc,etc,etc...but the Electra/Ultra Glides seem more suited to fullly loaded touring and you can buy 'em all ready to be packed and stuffed.
Slash,
Awesome bike! I've got the same one on the way!! Did you get the ABS??
Been ridin HD's for years (30+) and have owned\rode just about every touring class HD has ever produced and the ROAD GLIDE is by far the best handling tour bike of them all...
Hey Pappy,
Haven't been on in a while... nice upgrades to your graphics!!

Once again, you've got great taste!!
Thanks muchBill.....You're going to really love your new bike,I'mglad I went with black pearl, can't stop myself from walking out to the garage and looking at it,but the best part is blasting around corners with a huge smile on your face.
The Brembro's are incredible brakes, very responsive and smooth, mine are Non-ABS,I don't like the way ABS feels.
Its my first bike and probably the last model I will own. I have ridden the batwing bikes since I got mine. I don't like the fairing so close and it moves. If I was to buy another bike it would be a second to the roadie.
