Oh yeah, after you get it, don't forget to order the Street Glide rear fender fascia so you can clean up the spaces between the bags and fender like this!
This is the first HD I've owned, but I've actually ridden a Road King, Softail Deuce, and Sportster. Can't really make any comparison to any of the tourers, but this one is the nicest ride I've ever rode, including ALL of the metrics I've owned. Rent and ride to compare, then start practicing the Road Glide oath.
I had a RG and might have bought another if the MOCO would make an Ultra model. You spend twice as much dressing it up with all the stuff that comes standard on the UC. They only problem I had with the stock RG was the handle bars did not come back far enough. Most everyone I know that has one has replaced the stock bars. Also I did not like riding it in high winds. Got push around A LOT. My theory is since the fairing is frame mounted all that wind force gets transfered to the frame. I find it much easier to counter steer in the wind with my EG. Of course I may just be a better rider now too.
An RGis the first Harley I owned. Came off a Suzuki C50. The transition took all of 2 minutes for the fixed fairing. Wouldn't consider a batwing bike now. You won't be disappointed. It's been said before, this is the best secret Harley has. Ride often. Ride ugly.
Just got one,as I said in my introductory post to the Touring section of HDF: It's a rider's bike from front to back,it's handling ability is incredible.HD sells a lot more Electra Glides so those havemore available as far as aftermarket add ons as compared to the Road Glides...But that said I like the Road Glide a lot pretty much the way it comes right out of the packing crate.Very pleased with mine,I plan on riding it for many years.
The fairing on the Electra/Ultra Glides is wider across and sits closer to your body so it keeps wind and rain off you a little more effectively...a plus in crummy or cold weather, but the frame mounted fairing of the Road Glide contributes greatlyto it's outstanding handling qualities.
I consider the Road Glide a bit more of a "Sports Touring" bike, you can load it down like crazyif you want, add a tour pack etc,etc,etc...but the Electra/Ultra Glides seem more suited to fullly loaded touring and you can buy 'em all ready to be packed and stuffed.
Slash,
Awesome bike! I've got the same one on the way!! Did you get the ABS??
Once again, you've got great taste!!
Thanks muchBill.....You're going to really love your new bike,I'mglad I went with black pearl, can't stop myself from walking out to the garage and looking at it,but the best part is blasting around corners with a huge smile on your face.
The Brembro's are incredible brakes, very responsive and smooth, mine are Non-ABS,I don't like the way ABS feels.
I'm sure I will love it... I was originally not going to get ABS, but for only $800 I can get better emergency stopping power. If I don't like it, I can always disconnect it, but after reading all the stories of guys who saved themselves in crazy situations, I felt like I could possible use ABS too. I've never had a bike with them before, so this will be a first. My order got screwed up, so I decided to push it off until March '08 and add the ABS. I can't really ride in New Hampshire in winter anyway... I would just be staring at it in my garage waiting for snow/ice free weather!!
After my son got his RG and I rode it that changed my opinion of them it grows on you.. They are great bikes. If they came with a tour pac I probaly would be riding one now. Son will be back on one shortly so I will see what the 08's are like. Knew a fellow back in the 80's and thats the only model he would buy.
I test rode both before buying my 1st HD this summer. To me the RG was more nimble and easier to control. It also sits a little lower. I never had a problem getting used to the fairing not moving as I am looking at the road ahead not the fairing. I love mine but I'm sure the batwings have nice benefits to. As some have said tour pak adds about $1,000, lowers about $600 to make a RG more like an ultra.
Wjatever you choose, ride it a lot and you will love it!
