Search IDS. There are a ton of posts on the Isolated Drive System. Lots of good info here to read up on.

It's really rather simple and consists of just a few parts.

Imagine a cast metal pie pan-looking device that bolts to the wheel hub in place of the belt sprocket....The pan hassome dividers castinto the inside of the pan like wedge shaped pieces of pie....Then insert some thick rubber slugs between those dividers and from there place a belt sprocket designed to engage the rubber slugs, but not touch the metal pan itself.

Alls that's different from then on is the sprocket will fall off in your hand if you were to remove the wheel....If you ever need to service it, all that might be required is new rubber slugs which only cost about $3.50 each

The Japs have been using same for 3 decades....It's proven tech.

so the power transfer is actually connected to rubber. you would think the rubber would give too much. thanks for the comeback................

It's the part they (forgot) to put on the 07s. Stock on the 08s. I just has one put on for $360. Worth every penney. JMO.

Like he said, do a search and you will find more than you can read in an evening. Have fun.

Royal Enfield first used "cush drive," as it's commonly called, in 1912. So it's really proven tech.

My third wife incorporated 'cush drive' tech in her rear drive assembly....It sure made for a relaxing ride.
