Default Need some help...heads or 95"

I'm planning out the winter project. My RKC is still an 88 but with S&S 510G cams. I'm pretty happy with the cams. My question is, what should the next step be? 95" kit or a set of heads. I plan on doing both but only one at a time. I'm really thinking about getting some big boyz heads that will have a 9.3:1 compression. These heads will then get me to 9.7:1 when the 95" kit goes in next year.

Should I do the heads or the 95" kit this winter...which is the better bang for the buck with my current set up? I'm mostly a single rider cruising at about 60 mph. Torque is my friend.

Thanks.

I am in the middle of deciding on a build right now and called Bean at Big Boyz this afternoon. He's very reasonable. I can do the heads and bore the cylinders with the gasket for under $500.. add in a pair of Flat tops and use your cam if you so desire and you'll git r done for a pretty damn good price as I have found out today.

If you can't afford to do it all at once, I would do the 95 and throw it back together with a cometic .030 head gasket. It would be better and save you a hassle if you did it all together. I'd buy a take-off set of heads this winter and send them off to Big Boyz and then let them sit until next year when you can afford to do the 95 and then assemble it all.

Take the money you want to spend nowand buy a 12 month CD.

It's very difficult to piece meal a 95" build without getting something wrong along the way. Better to save the $$$ now and buy the heads, cylinders and pistons at the same time assuring they will work together.

At what forum would that be? I have already bought the jugs and pistons from Phil. they are in the mail. But, since I will have the heads off anyways... Drop me a line and let me know.

Here's my thinking on this.............if you are going to have the heads off already, it's only another $250 to do the 95" kit and you will already be right there with the motor apart. $130 to have your cylinders bored and $115 for SE flattop pistons. It only makes sense to do it all at once since you will be right there anyhow.

You can go thru Big Boyz for the heads and cylinder work..........$130 for the cylinder boring, $299 for the port/polish/valve job, $30 to CC them, and $70 to mill them for equal compression and to raise the compression to the desired level.

Give Bean and call............he'll take care of you for under $600. www.bigboyzcycles.com

I made up this saying "There's no replacement for displacement".
Ok, so I didn't make it up but it hold's true. You're already close to completing it, might as well go all the way. Big Boyz comes highly recommended by many. Along with porting your heads, they could bore you stock 88" cylinders.

It's kind of a catch 22. You've already made the cam change which allows the engine to pump more air. Big bore kit will pump even more air. But it all comes in and goes out through the cylinder heads so that's a bit of a limiting factor.

What everyone else says really makes sense, tear it down once and be done. As far as which would give you the most gain, I'd guess the head work would produce more of an increase thah just the big bore especially since you've already upgraded the camshaft.

I'm all in. Heads and big bore it is. I really don't need to eat. I'll just take what I give to Walmart each week and give it to Bean.
