When I picked up my 08 Ultra the dealer owner showed me how the teather for the lid gets pinched when you close the lid if you don't pull it in. This got old real quick, so I bought a spring and clip at Menard's and fixed it. It now retracts when you close the lid so the teather is clear. BE WARNED, THE SPRING VIBRATES AGAINST THE PLASTIC INSIDE THE LID AND LEAVES MARKS as shown in the one picture. Well worth the $1.29 in parts!
Great tip, I would take a piece of foam padding or thin rubber weather stripping to cover that spot where it is rubbing. I hate to hear stuff like that when I am riding and don't really like it wearing on the parts.
Yeah, you could twist the cable 180°, but a nice bit of lacey elastic from the sewing store would do what the spring does and it would be silent and sexy.
